Up to 35% Japanese language ability required Position Summary The Mechanical Design Engineer will design and manage automation and material-handling projects from concept through installation and start-up. This role works closely with customers and internal electrical and sales teams and supports equipment fabrication, assembly, testing, troubleshooting, and commissioning. Japanese language ability is required for relevant project coordination and communication. Key Responsibilities Design material-handling and automation systems, including conveyors, robotic systems, machinery, and AGVs. Create 3D models, parts, and assemblies using SolidWorks and AutoCAD. Manage multiple projects from design through fabrication, installation, and start-up. Meet with customers to review requirements, designs, and equipment. Oversee internal and outsourced fabrication, assembly, and equipment testing. Support machine/robotic system troubleshooting and commissioning. Select components/equipment and prepare purchase requisitions. Prepare cost estimates, quotations, and customer documentation. Coordinate with electrical, controls, sales, suppliers, and fabrication teams. Support projects involving PLC/HMI-controlled equipment. Maintain project schedules and budgets.
Qualifications Required:
Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field. Japanese language ability required for project-related communication. SolidWorks and AutoCAD proficiency. Experience with mechanical/machine design, including automated or robotic equipment. Understanding of PLC/HMI-controlled machinery and electromechanical systems. Microsoft Office proficiency. Strong project management and communication skills. Ability to travel up to 35%.
Preferred:
Automotive manufacturing experience. Experience with conveyors, robotics, AGVs, and custom machinery. Knowledge of pneumatics and equipment guarding. Experience with equipment installation, troubleshooting, and commissioning.
