full-time FlexTrades is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to support a leading manufacturer of pneumatic, braking, and air management systems used throughout the transportation industry.

Pay:
$65.00 per hour Guaranteed 10 hours OT pay each week (overtime paid at 1.5x hourly rate) FlexTrades has paid travel time, lodging, and per diem. This engineer will join an established engineering team responsible for sustaining engineering, manufacturing support, product improvement initiatives, testing, and new product development for mechanical and electromechanical products including pneumatic valves, air dryers, brake assemblies, air management systems, filters, gauges, and related components. This position is highly integrated with manufacturing and requires a hands-on engineer who enjoys solving production issues, supporting quality initiatives, improving existing products, and collaborating closely with operations teams. Rail industry experience is NOT required for this role. Engineers with backgrounds in heavy vehicles, commercial transportation, fluid power, industrial valves, compressors, aerospace systems, off-highway equipment, or other complex mechanical products are encouraged to apply. What You'll Be Working On/Products supported by this team include: Pneumatic valves Air brake components Air dryer systems Air management products Parking brake assemblies Mechanical and electromechanical control systems Legacy and new transportation products Key Responsibilities Sustaining Engineering Investigate and resolve manufacturing, quality, supplier, and production-related issues. Perform root cause analysis and troubleshooting of product, assembly, and manufacturing concerns. Evaluate dimensional tolerances, fit-up concerns, and design-related manufacturing challenges. Review and update engineering drawings, models, bills of materials, and documentation. Support engineering change activities, drawing revisions, and product improvements. Collaborate closely with Manufacturing, Quality, Purchasing, and Operations teams. Identify, evaluate, and qualify alternate suppliers and replacement components. Support validation efforts related to supplier changes and component substitutions. Product Development Create and modify mechanical designs, assemblies, detail drawings, and engineering documentation. Support development of new pneumatic and mechanical products. Participate in design reviews and design-for-manufacturing evaluations. Assist with prototype development, product testing, and product validation activities. Support cost reduction and manufacturability improvement initiatives. Contribute to the development of internally designed replacement products and components. Testing & Validation Support performance, validation, and qualification testing. Participate in lifecycle and durability testing initiatives. Support environmental and temperature testing activities. Develop test procedures and document test results. Assist with research and development testing programs. Required Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering discipline. SolidWorks required and Creo experience highly preferred due to ongoing legacy support 8-10 years' experience with Electro-mechanical assemblies such as Pneumatic systems, Air brake systems, Brake valves, Pneumatic valves, Air dryers, or Fluid power products Strong understanding of GD&T, tolerancing, and mechanical design principles. Experience supporting manufacturing, production, quality, or supplier-related engineering activities. Experience creating and maintaining engineering drawings, BOMs, and product documentation. Strong troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills. Ability to work directly with manufacturing personnel and cross-functional teams.
