Full Job Description Description:
About the role We're building BOLD in the US — starting in Michigan. This is not a maintenance role. This is about building something from scratch. At BOLD, we bring Formula 1 engineering DNA into high-performance, mission-critical applications , combining speed, precision, and innovation with the robustness required in defense environments. We are looking for a highly capable Mechanical Design Engineer whose primary strength is mechanical design and product integration, with the ability to operate across adjacent engineering disciplines in a fast-paced product development environment. This role is focused on the development of next-generation high-voltage battery systems for defense and advanced mobility applications. You will play a key role in transforming technical requirements into robust, manufacturable, high-performance mechanical solutions. If you enjoy solving complex integration and packaging challenges, taking ownership of designs from concept through validation, and contributing wherever needed to move development forward — this role is for you. Role Overview / Mission Lead the mechanical design and integration of high-performance battery systems and supporting structures, ensuring alignment with demanding targets in performance, safety, manufacturability, and reliability. Contribute as a key engineering member in a multidisciplinary environment, bringing strong ownership of mechanical architecture and detailed design while operating across multiple engineering disciplines including systems integration, testing, validation, manufacturing, and prototype development activities. What you'll do Lead the mechanical design and integration of high-voltage battery systems, modules, enclosures, and supporting components Develop detailed 3D CAD models, assemblies, and manufacturing drawings using 3DEXPERIENCE - CATIA V6 Drive design decisions related to: Structural integrity, Packaging optimization, Thermal integration, Manufacturability and assembly, Serviceability and robustness Own mechanical integration activities from early concept development through prototype and validation phases Produce and review detailed drawings for: components, assemblies, tooling, jigs & fixtures Apply and review GD&T principles, tolerancing strategies, and design-for-manufacturing methodologies Contribute across multiple engineering activities including systems integration, testing, validation, prototype troubleshooting, manufacturing support, and product development tasks as needed Support prototype builds, engineering problem-solving, and validation activities during development phases Apply strong understanding of materials and manufacturing processes used in high-performance environments, including metallic alloys, technical polymers, lightweight structures, and composite-related applications Participate in design reviews, risk assessments, and continuous product improvement initiatives Operate effectively in a fast-moving engineering environment with evolving priorities and high technical complexity Role scope & level Individual contributor role with high technical ownership Expected to contribute across the full product development lifecycle Strong hands-on engineering mindset required Expected to operate with a broad engineering mindset beyond pure mechanical design, contributing where needed in a fast-paced product development environment
Requirements:
What You Bring Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field 5+ years of experience in mechanical design for battery systems, electrification products, or high-voltage applications Strong mechanical design background focused on assemblies, structures, and product integration Excellent experience with 3DEXPERIENCE - CATIA V6 Good understanding of GD&T, tolerancing, manufacturing processes, and DFM/DFA principles Comfortable contributing beyond pure mechanical design, supporting activities such as testing, validation, prototype troubleshooting, and product integration Familiarity with FEA/CFD, thermal integration, or validation/testing environments is a plus Strong ownership mindset, engineering judgment, and problem-solving capability Why BOLD Work on cutting-edge battery systems inspired by motorsport and applied to mission-critical environments Be part of building our US presence from the ground up High ownership, low bureaucracy, real impact Operate at the intersection of performance, safety, and innovation Exposure to diverse, high-end applications (defense, advanced mobility, motorsport) We combine the speed and mindset of Formula 1 with the rigor and reliability required in defense. If you're coming from a slow-moving environment and want to build faster, smarter, and better — this is your place. Additional requirements This position involves access to information and technology controlled under the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR, 22 CFR 120-130) and/or the Export Administration Regulations (EAR, 15 CFR 730-774). Proof of status will be required. Compensation & Benefits We offer a competitive total compensation package benchmarked to market and calibrated to each candidate's experience, qualifications, and the scope of the role. Benefits include a comprehensive offering designed to support the health, financial well-being, and professional growth of our employees. Specific details will be discussed with candidates advancing through the interview process. About BOLD At BOLD, we are a diverse, global team combining expertise from automotive, motorsport, aerospace, and advanced engineering.
We operate across two divisions:
