Job Description
Role summary / purpose Rear Closures Core Engineering Subject Matter Expert. We are looking for an energetic self-starter to develop and release technical requirements and strategy for moving rear closures. The ideal candidate will have experience working with internal and external customers to set engineering-related requirements and achieve customer expectations of performance. Key responsibilities Develop and release technical requirements and strategy for rear closures Work with internal and external customers to set engineering-related requirements Develop core documentation including technical requirements, FMA, and technical strategies Work on all aspects of rear closures including liftgates, tailgates, cargo doors, and swing gates Support sheet metal structures, hinges, latches, mechanisms, and system integration Requirements - education & experience 5+ years of experience developing closures systems (door, hood, liftgate, tailgate) Exposure to writing technical specifications Preferably experience with cargo doors or other rear of vehicle swinging/hinged closures Required skills System engineering disciplines and Design for Manufacturing principles Microsoft Suite of products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) Technical documentation and requirements development Nice-to-have / preferred skills Mechatronic or system integration design development Experience with sheet metal body structures, closures, stamping, static and/or dynamic sealing, power/gas struts, power drive units/motors, and hinges Direct experience in closures systems (tailgates, liftgates, swing gates, side doors, cargo doors, moveable roof systems) Experience solving current model quality issues and implementing corrective actions Knowledge of craftsmanship expectations, benchmarking, and futuring Knowledge of automotive exterior components including materials and manufacturing technologies (stamping, injection molding, extrusion, forging, casting, welding, riveting) Experience with bolted joint structures Experience with structural mechanics Experience with hinge mechanism dynamics Working knowledge of FEA, DFMEA, Control Plan development, and Dimensional Variation Analysis Ability to operate within
