Job Title:
Mechanical Engineer Job Description We are seeking a skilled Mechanical Engineer to join our team in the design, manufacturing, deployment, and support of an advanced Unmanned Aerial System tailored for military and defense applications. This role is pivotal as our project is in an accelerated phase with critical milestones ahead. You will work closely with another mechanical engineer to design and develop components for this system, engaging in a hands-on role that demands creativity, precision, and strong supplier coordination. Responsibilities Collaborate with various departments and engineers to determine optimal material layers, such as carbon fiber, ensuring proper load distribution. Perform stress analysis to validate design integrity. Design and model components using SolidWorks. Coordinate directly with suppliers regarding fabrication, carbon-fiber layups, tooling, and mold development. Generate and approve engineering drawings, manage design revisions, and oversee change-order implementation. Monitor supplier progress, review first-article parts, resolve discrepancies, and release components into production. Ensure design, integration, and supplier activities are executed on schedule to meet critical project deadlines. Essential Skills Proficiency in SolidWorks for designing brackets, hangers, and components. Background in aviation, aerospace, or autonomous vehicles. Minimum of 3 years designing in SolidWorks. Bachelor's degree in a relevant field. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience with UAV flying. Access to Udemy for further learning after 6 months. Work Environment You will work on-site in Howell alongside another mechanical engineer, a drafter, and a configuration manager, as well as an external team working on designs. The team includes 2-3 electrical technicians and another electrical engineer. The typical working hours are from 8 to 5, with flexibility. Weekend work may be required if approaching a project deadline but is not typical. Travel may be needed as required. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Howell, MI. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $43.00 - $52.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
