This role partners with Program Management, Plant Operations, Quality, Supply Chain, suppliers, and customers to ensure tooling meets safety, quality, cost, capacity, timing, and maintainability requirements from concept through production. Key Responsibilities Lead tooling concepts, specifications, design reviews, sourcing, build, tryout, approval, installation, and production launch. Develop and maintain tooling timing, budgets, open-issue lists, scoring assessments and recovery plans aligned with program milestones. Ensure tools achieve part quality, cycle time, capacity, ergonomics, safety, and preventive-maintenance targets. Review designs, simulations, layouts, tolerance schemes, and process assumptions; drive design-for-manufacturability improvements. Coordinate tool trials, capability studies, run-at-rate activities, PPAP support, and corrective actions with plants and suppliers. Troubleshoot tooling and process issues using structured problem-solving and data-driven root-cause analysis. Manage engineering changes, tool modifications, spare parts, documentation, asset records, and end-of-life strategies. Support supplier performance, tooling audits, cost reduction, standardization, and continuous improvement initiatives. Required Qualifications Five or more years of injection tooling, manufacturing, or process engineering experience in automotive or high-volume manufacturing. Working knowledge of tooling design, manufacturing processes, GD&T, tolerance analysis, APQP, PPAP, PFMEA, control plans, and capability methods. Experience managing tooling suppliers, schedules, budgets, technical reviews, trials, and launches. Proficiency with CAD review tools and Microsoft Office; ability to interpret drawings, specifications, and production data. Ability to travel to RESRG facilities, customer locations, and suppliers as business needs require. Preferred Qualifications & Competencies Experience and familiarity with gauges, assembly tooling, or other automotive production tooling is a bonus. Success requires strong project ownership, technical judgment, supplier management, communication, collaboration, urgency, attention to detail, and the ability to resolve problems in a fast-paced launch and production environment.
Reporting & Work Environment:
Reports to the designated Manufacturing Engineering leader and works cross-functionally across RESRG programs and manufacturing sites. The position operates in office, tool shop and plant environments and may require extended time on the production floor during trials, launches, and issue resolution.
