With more than 80 years of combined industry experience, RMF has built a reputation for engineering excellence, innovation, and dependable equipment designed to perform in demanding production environments. Our family of companies—including RMF Steel, RMF Freezers, and Challenge RMF—provides specialized equipment solutions that help customers increase efficiency, improve food safety, and solve complex manufacturing challenges. Because much of our equipment is custom engineered, our work requires creative thinking, strong mechanical engineering fundamentals, practical problem-solving, and the ability to turn challenging requirements into equipment that works in the real world. As RMF continues to grow, we are looking for an experienced engineer who wants to have a major technical impact on the company and its products. Job Description RMF Companies is seeking an experienced, hands-on Mechanical Engineer to help drive the design, development, and improvement of custom food processing equipment across RMF Steel, RMF Freezers, and Challenge RMF. The primary focus of this role is the following type of engineering work—designing equipment, solving complex mechanical problems, coordinating with the shop to ensure design execution, improving existing designs, and finding practical solutions to challenging customer and manufacturing requirements. The Senior Mechanical Engineer will take ownership of significant engineering projects from concept through production. This includes developing concepts, performing engineering analysis and calculations, creating and reviewing designs, working with manufacturing to ensure designs can be efficiently produced, troubleshooting equipment, and continuously improving RMF's products and engineering processes. The ideal candidate is someone who enjoys getting into the details of a problem and figuring out how to make something work. You should be comfortable working with complex machinery, questioning existing designs, developing better solutions, and taking ownership when a project presents a difficult engineering challenge. This position will serve as a senior technical resource within RMF. You will have the opportunity to influence engineering standards, design practices, product development, and technical decisions across the organization. You may provide technical guidance and mentorship to other engineers and designers. We are looking for someone who wants to spend their time engineering, designing, solving problems, and improving products. Because our equipment is custom built, this position requires close collaboration with manufacturing, fabrication, purchasing, sales, project management, and service. You will work directly with these teams to ensure that engineering solutions are practical, manufacturable, reliable, and meet the customer's needs. Strong communication skills are important. The successful candidate will occasionally work directly with customers to understand technical requirements, explain equipment functionality, troubleshoot problems, and develop effective engineering solutions. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering discipline required. Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred but not required. 10+ years of engineering experience in machine design and manufacturing of industrial equipment. Strong background in machine design, fabrication, manufacturing, and product development. Experience with Autodesk Inventor Vault and Professional, or similar 3D CAD software. Experience with PDM/PLM software and ERP systems used to manage engineering data. Willingness to travel occasionally to customer sites and manufacturing facilities. Strong understanding of engineering documentation, BOM management, and revision control. Excellent project management and organizational skills. Demonstrated ability to mentor engineers and develop technical talent. Strong financial awareness related to engineering budgets and project costs. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Proven ability to make sound technical and business decisions. Experience working with custom machinery, automation, food processing equipment, stainless steel fabrication, or industrial systems is highly preferred.
