Design Engineer II (Special Projects) Engineering/Design Las Vegas, NV

• Full-Time/Regular Position Summary As a Design Engineer II at Southland Industries, you'll experience the excitement of working on design-build and design-assist projects in healthcare, education, biotech, mission critical, commercial and entertainment markets. You'll work hand in hand with our model coordinators, estimators, and trade staff through all aspects of a project to create a design that is practical, efficient and cost effective. You'll also have access to internal teams using the most innovative practices in virtual construction design (VDC) and computational fluid dynamics, along with just-in-time feedback from the field. Position Details Performs more complex modeling, drawings and specifications related to HVAC, plumbing, electrical, fire protection or other systems Performs more complex calculations for a project, such as heating/cooling loads, equipment selection and sizing, friction loss calculations, hydraulic calculations, etc. Prepares preliminary redline design layouts for estimating May be responsible for a single phase of a project Provides guidance to less experienced engineers Performs on-site field surveys to collect or deliver design and engineering data. Assists in writing technical narratives and responses to RFIs Responsible for Code compliance Independently performs most assignments with instruction only regarding general expected results Receives technical guidance for unusual or complex problems and supervisory approval of proposed project plans May provide technical guidance to less-experienced engineers Interfaces directly with other disciplines, contractors, architects, and other project team members. Qualifications Four-year degree in Engineering or related field PE License preferred Minimum 3 years' experience Basic knowledge of applicable systems design, such as fire suppression, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, etc., as well as general understanding of system operations. Ability to read construction documents.
