Position Summary tec5USA is seeking an Analytical Instrumentation R&D Engineer to support laboratory testing, spectroscopy-based analysis, method development, research and development, analytical instrumentation development, and customer application studies. This position combines analytical chemistry with applied R&D. The successful candidate will perform hands-on laboratory work involving UV-Vis, NIR, and Raman spectroscopy, analyze chemical and spectroscopic data, design and execute experiments, develop analytical methods, and contribute to the testing and improvement of spectroscopy-based instrumentation and applications. The position reports to the Director of Applications and Services. Responsibilities Perform hands-on laboratory testing and analytical chemistry work for internal R&D and customer application projects. Conduct measurements using UV-Vis, NIR, and Raman spectroscopy. Prepare samples, standards, and reference materials for laboratory analysis. Design and execute experiments and feasibility studies for new and existing spectroscopy applications. Develop, evaluate, and optimize qualitative and quantitative analytical methods. Analyze and interpret spectroscopic and laboratory data. Work with chemometricians and technical personnel to develop and evaluate calibration and predictive models. Perform or coordinate reference analyses, including HPLC and GC, when required. Evaluate instrument and method performance, including accuracy, repeatability, reproducibility, and reliability. Build, configure, test, and evaluate experimental and prototype spectroscopy setups. Support the development and improvement of spectroscopy instrumentation, sampling systems, and analytical solutions. Troubleshoot instrumentation, analytical methods, sample preparation, and data-quality issues. Perform root-cause analysis and recommend technical improvements based on experimental results. Support verification, validation, method transfer, and
IQ/OQ/PQ
activities when applicable. Apply Design of Experiments (DOE) and other structured experimental approaches when appropriate. Collaborate with chemists, physicists, optical, electrical, mechanical, and software engineers on multidisciplinary R&D projects. Maintain accurate laboratory records, test results, protocols, reports, and technical documentation. Follow established laboratory safety, quality, and ISO procedures.
Qualifications Educational Background:
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Instrumentation Engineering, Applied Physics, OptoElectroMechanical Engineering, or a closely related scientific or engineering discipline. Minimum of 3 years of relevant laboratory, analytical chemistry, spectroscopy, or R&D experience preferred. Hands-on experience in analytical instrumentation, spectroscopy, optical measurement systems, method development, and R&D. Experience with UV-Vis, NIR, and/or Raman spectroscopy strongly preferred. Strong understanding of analytical chemistry, quantitative analysis, calibration, experimental design, and method validation. Ability to design experiments, analyze data, troubleshoot technical problems, and draw scientifically supported conclusions. Experience with HPLC or GC is a plus. Familiarity with chemometric and data-analysis tools such as PLS Toolbox, SIMCA, MATLAB, Python, or R is highly desirable. Knowledge of
PCA, PLS
regression, calibration development, and spectral preprocessing is a plus. Experience with scientific instrumentation, prototype development, DOE, or verification/validation testing is desirable. Familiarity with AI and machine-learning applications in spectroscopy is a plus. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and technical documentation skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary team. Additional Requirements Ability to commute to and work on-site at our Plainview, NY facility. Work authorization in the United States is required.
Compensation Base Salary:
$80,000-$110,000 annually Additional performance-based compensation may be available based on individual and company objectives.
