Job Title:
Mechanical Engineer Job Description We are seeking a hands-on Mechanical Engineer to contribute to federal, military, healthcare, and institutional projects. The role involves performing HVAC and plumbing design, mechanical calculations, Revit production, construction document development, and interdisciplinary coordination. Responsibilities Design HVAC and plumbing systems under guidance as needed. Perform load calculations, equipment sizing, pump calculations, and other mechanical design calculations. Produce construction documents and mechanical drawings in Revit. Coordinate with architecture, electrical, structural, and other engineering disciplines. Support multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment. Participate in occasional site visits for field verification and assessment. Contribute immediately with minimal training in Revit or construction documentation. Essential Skills Must personally perform HVAC system design and be able to explain systems they have designed. Actively perform plumbing design and have recent hands-on plumbing project experience. Produce mechanical drawings and construction documents directly in Revit. Independently perform load calculations, equipment sizing, pump calculations, and related engineering calculations. Personally own design deliverables, calculations, and production rather than serving in a coordination-only or management-only role. U.S. Citizenship required for federal project access. Additional Skills & Qualifications PE License or EIT Certification preferred. Experience with federal, DoD, VA, or military projects. Experience with healthcare or institutional facilities. Mechanical controls and building automation systems experience. Familiarity with sequences of operation and design-build projects. AutoCAD experience. Strong technical communication skills. BSME or related engineering degree preferred. 5-10+ years of hands-on HVAC and plumbing design experience. Experience producing construction documents in Revit. Work Environment This role operates within a professional architecture and engineering office environment. New hires are expected to begin with a greater in-office presence during onboarding and may transition to a hybrid schedule with three days per week in the office. The culture is laid-back but emphasizes meeting deadlines. The primary location is Irvine, CA, with occasional local 1-2 day site visits. Hours are flexible, typically from 8 AM to 5 PM or 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM. There is an initial 90-day in-office ramp period, followed by a long-term hybrid schedule of 3 days onsite and 2 days remote. If residing in Irvine, a full-time office presence is preferred. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Sacramento, CA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $57.00 - $72.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
