Job Description
A respected and growing Consulting Engineering firm is seeking an experienced and motivated Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our Baltimore office. This is an exciting opportunity for a licensed professional who is passionate about engineering excellence, leadership, and delivering innovative building systems solutions across a diverse portfolio of projects. As a key member of our multidisciplinary design team, you will play a vital role in the planning, design, coordination, and execution of complex mechanical engineering projects serving commercial, healthcare, institutional, educational, municipal, and industrial clients. Position Overview The Senior Mechanical Engineer will lead mechanical system design efforts from concept through construction administration while collaborating closely with architects, owners, contractors, and internal engineering disciplines. This role requires strong technical expertise, leadership capabilities, and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining high standards of quality, accuracy, and responsiveness. The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker with extensive experience in HVAC, plumbing, and mechanical systems design, a deep understanding of applicable building codes and standards, and a proven ability to guide projects successfully within budget and schedule requirements. Key Responsibilities Lead the design and development of mechanical systems for a wide range of building types and facility projects. Manage projects through all phases including feasibility studies, schematic design, design development, construction documentation, bidding, and construction administration. Prepare, review, and oversee detailed engineering calculations, technical specifications, reports, and construction documents. Coordinate with architects, engineers, consultants, contractors, and clients to ensure seamless project delivery. Provide technical leadership and supervision to junior engineers and design staff. Conduct quality assurance and quality control reviews to ensure code compliance, accuracy, and constructability. Utilize advanced AutoCAD and Revit software to develop and coordinate mechanical system designs. Perform discipline-specific engineering analyses using industry-standard software tools. Review internal and external designs for compliance with applicable codes, standards, and engineering best practices. Participate in client meetings, project presentations, and site visits. Resolve construction-phase issues, attend coordination meetings, respond to RFIs, and perform field inspections as required. Assist with recruiting, mentoring, training, and developing engineering staff. Support business development initiatives and maintain strong client relationships. Qualifications Bachelor of Science degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited university or equivalent. Maryland Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) with Mechanical Engineering specialization required. LEED Accredited Professional certification preferred (any specialty). Minimum of 7-10+ years of progressive mechanical engineering design experience within the A/E consulting industry. Proven experience working on commercial, healthcare, institutional, educational, municipal, and industrial projects. Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, mechanical design principles, energy-efficient building systems, and sustainable design practices. Excellent understanding of applicable building codes, industry standards, and construction processes. Demonstrated ability to manage and lead multidisciplinary design teams. Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit required. Working knowledge of discipline-specific analysis and engineering software tools. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with Primavera and/or Microsoft Project. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills. Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities. #
