Project Engineer III / Design Release Engineer (DRE) Farmington Hills, Michigan Direct Hire Hybrid Role
ROLE OVERVIEW
Responsible for controlling and coordinating design and development activities for new and existing products. Owns engineering activities including design, development, testing, scheduling, engineering changes, project execution, and coordination with internal teams. Provides technical direction to technicians, designers, and less-experienced engineers while managing multiple projects with limited supervision.
HIRING TEAM GUIDANCE
Seeking a Mechanical Engineer with approximately 5-15 years of relevant engineering experience . Preference for candidates with plastics and/or mechanical systems experience. Team wants someone with solid engineering experience. Strong preference for candidates who have demonstrated product/component ownership rather than purely project coordination experience.
IDEAL CANDIDATE PROFILE
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline; Master's degree acceptable. 5-15 years of relevant engineering experience; strongest target range approximately 6-12 years. Automotive OEM/Tier 1 engineering background strongly preferred. Experience functioning as a Design Release Engineer, Product Engineer, Product Development Engineer, Mechanical Engineer, or Component Engineer . Experience owning products/components through design, development, validation, engineering changes, and launch. Strong preference for plastics, injection molding, HVAC, mechanical assemblies, or mechanical systems experience. Experience with DFMEA/FMEA, VA/VE, DFM/DFA, engineering changes, testing/validation, and manufacturing interfaces . Comfortable coordinating designers, technicians, suppliers, manufacturing, and other engineering disciplines. Strong organizational and communication skills; able to manage multiple engineering projects simultaneously.
