Job Title:
Software Design Release Engineer
  • DC-DC Converter Job Description This role focuses on the end-to-end design, development, integration, testing, and release of embedded software for advanced DC-DC converter solutions used in next-generation vehicle electrical systems.
You will ensure that 48V DC-DC converter software is robust, efficient, safe, and compliant with global automotive standards, while collaborating closely with cross-functional teams and external suppliers throughout the full software lifecycle from concept through production. Responsibilities Lead the design, development, integration, testing, and release of embedded software for advanced DC-DC converter modules used in vehicle body and power distribution systems. Manage the complete software lifecycle for 48V DC-DC modules, from concept and requirements definition through implementation, validation, and production release. Ensure all software implementations meet stringent functional, cybersecurity, and quality standards, and are delivered on schedule to support key vehicle program milestones. Collaborate closely with core software teams, hardware engineers, systems engineers, and other cross-functional stakeholders to deliver world-class power control software for body electronic systems. Work directly with automotive suppliers on software development projects, ensuring alignment with specifications, development processes, and delivery timelines. Apply automotive software development processes, including ASPICE and ISO-based practices, to ensure robust and traceable software development and verification. Utilize strong understanding of power electronics, particularly DC-DC converters and 48V vehicle architectures, to guide software design decisions and system integration. Incorporate cybersecurity principles into embedded software design to protect vehicle systems and ensure compliance with relevant automotive cybersecurity requirements. Perform root cause analysis (RCA) to investigate and resolve software and system issues, driving corrective actions and long-term improvements. Prepare and deliver clear technical documentation and presentations, communicating complex software and system concepts to diverse technical and non-technical audiences. Coordinate and track software work products, issues, and changes using project management and organizational best practices. Support software validation activities, including bench or dyno-based component testing, and leverage software validation tools and methodologies where applicable. Work with requirements management tools to capture, track, and maintain software and system requirements throughout the development lifecycle. Support the implementation and verification of diagnostic functionality, including protocols such as UDS and OBD-II, to ensure effective fault detection and serviceability. Essential Skills Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related field. At least 3 years of experience in embedded software development and delivery within the automotive industry. Proven automotive software design and release (D&R) experience. Strong understanding of automotive software development processes, including familiarity with ASPICE and ISO-based standards. Demonstrated knowledge of power electronics, specifically DC-DC converters and 48V vehicle electrical architectures. Experience working with automotive suppliers on software development projects. Understanding of cybersecurity principles as applied to automotive embedded systems. Experience with vehicle power distribution systems (preferred but strongly relevant). Excellent problem-solving skills and hands-on experience with root cause analysis (RCA) methodologies. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex technical information clearly and effectively. Strong project management and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities. 3+ years of automotive software experience, including development, validation, and release activities. Additional Skills & Qualifications Master's degree in a relevant engineering discipline is preferred. Experience with global automotive product development systems and related tools, such as WERS and Integrator, is advantageous. Experience with software validation tools and methodologies, including bench or dyno-based component testing. Knowledge of advanced control techniques for power converters and their application in automotive systems. Knowledge of diagnostic protocols such as UDS and OBD-II. Familiarity with requirements management tools such as DOORS or JAMA. product engineering and automotive power distribution is beneficial. Ability to work effectively in cross-functional and supplier-facing environments, building strong technical and collaborative relationships. Work Environment This position operates in a hybrid work environment that combines remote work-from-home flexibility with on-site collaboration as needed to support development, integration, and testing activities. You will work with modern automotive software development toolchains, requirements management platforms, and validation equipment, including benches or dynos for component-level testing. The role involves close collaboration with internal engineering teams and external suppliers in a structured product development setting. On-site work may take place in office, lab, and test facility environments where standard engineering attire is appropriate and adherence to all safety procedures and facility guidelines is expected. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Allen Park, MI. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $42.30
