Job Description

CenCore is seeking a Mechanical Engineering Intern to support mechanical design, component research, manufacturing coordination, and light project support for the Engineering team. This part-time internship is ideal for a current student in the process of completing their education who has CAD coursework or experience, takes initiative, and can contribute with limited day-to-day oversight. Key Responsibilities Assist with the design of mechanical parts, assemblies, and subsystems. Research components, materials, processes, and relevant physics principles to support design decisions. Collaborate with manufacturing engineers to improve designs for manufacturability. Support smaller portions of larger engineering projects through task tracking, coordination, and light project management. Apply CAD tools to create, review, or modify design concepts and technical documentation. Take initiative to identify questions, propose solutions, and move assigned work forward with minimal direction. Perform other related engineering support duties based on project needs and the intern's skill set. Required Qualifications Current student pursuing education in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field; year in school and specific degree type are flexible. CAD coursework or practical CAD experience. Strong work ethic and willingness to learn. Ability to work independently and follow through on assigned tasks with limited oversight. Ability to work 16-20 hours per week, with approximately three-fourths of working hours scheduled between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Preferred Qualifications Experience using Onshape. Hands-on mechanical experience, such as prototyping, fabrication, repair, assembly, machining, or similar practical work. Interest in mechanical design, manufacturing, product development, or applied engineering.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements This is a part-time, hourly internship expected to work approximately 16-20 hours per week. Scheduling is flexible; however, approximately three-fourths of scheduled hours should occur between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Work may involve a combination of office, engineering, design, and manufacturing-support environments. The role may require prolonged periods working at a computer, reviewing technical information, and occasionally interacting with parts, components, or mechanical assemblies. Compensation Overview The anticipated pay range for this position is $25.00-$30.00 per hour. This wage has been confirmed as state competitive for an internship role in this specialty and is subject to experience, qualifications, internal equity, applicable contract requirements, and applicable law.
