Job Description

STL Staffing is hiring a Mechanical Design Engineer in Appleton to take full, hands-on ownership of custom hydraulic press systems, from first sketch through manufacturing and build. This is not a review-and-approve role or component-level work. You'll design the complete machine yourself, then see it built, tested, and running on a customer's floor. What you'll do Design complete custom hydraulic press systems from concept through build. Develop machine layouts, structural frameworks, and system architecture. Engineer large weldments, frames, platens, cylinders, and integrated subsystems. Perform engineering calculations, including stress analysis, load cases, and deflection analysis. Serve as mechanical lead, managing multiple machine builds at different stages. Interface directly with customers on technical specs and scope changes. Collaborate with fabrication, machining, and assembly teams to keep designs manufacturable. Why this role This is built for an engineer who wants to design, not just analyze or sign off on someone else's work. You'll own the machine end to end, from concept and layout through structural calculations, and follow it all the way to something real running on the floor. What we're looking for Required Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering. 5+ years designing complete industrial machines or heavy equipment. Proven experience leading mechanical design of complex, multi-assembly systems. Strong background in hydraulic systems and structural design. Advanced 3D CAD proficiency (SolidWorks, Inventor, or similar). Experience in engineered-to-order or custom machinery environments. Pay and benefits $75,000-$95,000 a year. Health insurance. Dental insurance. Paid time off.
