This hands-on position will contribute to the design, fabrication, and implementation of equipment and solutions that improve manufacturing processes and plant operations. The role offers a unique opportunity for someone who enjoys combining mechanical design with machining and fabrication, rather than being limited strictly to a CAD desk or production machining environment. The ideal candidate will bring a combination of CNC programming, SolidWorks, mechanical design, and hands-on fabrication experience. This individual will work closely with engineers to turn concepts and requirements into functional mechanical components and assemblies, including measuring and reverse engineering existing parts, developing 3D models and technical drawings, programming and operating CNC equipment, and supporting automation and continuous improvement initiatives throughout the manufacturing environment.
Responsibilities:
Design, build, and fabricate mechanical components and assemblies from engineering drawings, concepts, measurements, and project requirements. Program, set up, operate, and assist with maintaining CNC and machine shop equipment, including machining centers, CNC lathes, Wire EDM equipment, and related machinery. Measure and evaluate existing components, tooling, and assemblies to develop accurate SolidWorks models, manufacturing drawings, and supporting design documentation. Partner with engineers on manufacturing automation, equipment improvement, R D, and continuous improvement projects from initial design through fabrication and implementation. Review mechanical drawings and designs for dimensional accuracy, tolerancing, manufacturability, and compliance with established drafting and documentation practices. Provide hands-on technical support to the machine shop and manufacturing floor, including troubleshooting mechanical issues and assisting with production equipment when needed.
Qualifications:
Minimum of 2 years of hands-on CNC programming experience combined with a solid understanding of machining practices and machine shop operations. Technical/trade school certificate or Associate's Degree in CAD, Engineering Technology, Mechanical Design, Manufacturing Technology, or a related technical discipline. Working knowledge of mechanical tolerancing, precision measurement techniques, standard mechanical components, and the interpretation of engineering and manufacturing drawings. Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to translate design concepts and physical components into practical, manufacturable solutions and perform basic engineering calculations. SolidWorks
