Job Description

Job Description Overview Our customer is seeking a Mechatronics Engineer to join their robotics and engineering services team in Austin, TX. This individual will work at the intersection of mechanical systems, electronics, software, controls, and telemetry data to support, design, integrate, validate, and troubleshoot large-scale robotic and automated systems. The role combines hands-on engineering development with technical support responsibilities and requires a strong understanding of how hardware and software work together to drive reliable, precision motion in complex electromechanical environments. This position is ideal for someone with experience in robotics, industrial automation, motion control systems, embedded software, and field support. The role reports to Engineering Leadership and will collaborate closely with software, controls, mechanical, electrical, installation, and operations teams. Responsibilities Design, integrate, and validate electromechanical systems for large-scale robotics and industrial automation applications. Provide remote and occasional on-site technical support for robotic automation systems, material handling equipment, sensors, actuators, and embedded control systems. Diagnose and resolve software, firmware, electrical, controls, networking, and mechanical issues in complex mechatronic systems. Configure, tune, and commission servo drives, motors, encoders, and motion control hardware within EtherCAT-based and similar industrial control architectures. Develop and maintain low-level embedded software for motion control, I/O management, and hardware interfacing using C/C++, Python, or comparable real-time programming environments. Translate system performance requirements into drive configurations, tuning parameters, and electrical specifications. Support the design and layout of electrical panels, cable assemblies, wiring diagrams, and interface hardware. Develop and execute hardware integration plans, validation testing, acceptance testing, and commissioning procedures. Support software installation, configuration, updates, and patch deployments to improve system functionality and reliability. Analyze telemetry, performance data, logs, and operational reports to identify recurring issues, drive root cause analysis, and recommend system improvements. Develop reports and dashboards that help engineering teams understand system performance, uptime, and health metrics. Contribute to simulation, hardware-in-the-loop (HIL), and testing environments through actuator, drive, and system modeling. Train customers and internal teams on troubleshooting methodologies and system operations. Create and maintain technical documentation, troubleshooting guides, training manuals, and operating procedures. Collaborate closely with software, controls, mechanical, and installation teams to resolve customer and production issues. Participate in design reviews, code reviews, and continuous improvement initiatives. Provide feedback on system failures and opportunities for product enhancements. Ensure all systems comply with applicable safety, quality, and reliability standards. Support system turnover, field commissioning, and go-live events as needed. We are a company committed to creating diverse and inclusive environments where people can bring their full, authentic selves to work every day. We are an equal opportunity/affirmative action employer that believes everyone matters. Qualified candidates will receive consideration for employment regardless of their race, color, ethnicity, religion, sex (including pregnancy), sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, marital status, national origin, ancestry, genetic factors, age, disability, protected veteran status, military or uniformed service member status, or any other status or characteristic protected by applicable laws, regulations, and ordinances.
