Job Description
Senior Geotechnical EngineerPosition OverviewWe are seeking an experienced Senior Geotechnical Engineer to lead geotechnical design and site investigation activities for infrastructure, building and earthworks projects. The role combines technical leadership, project management, and hands-on engineering to deliver robust foundation, slope stability, retaining structure and ground improvement solutions. The successful candidate will mentor junior staff, liaise with clients and contractors, and ensure designs meet regulatory and safety standards.
Key ResponsibilitiesLead geotechnical site investigations, including planning CPT, SPT, borehole, and in-situ testing, and supervise field teams.
Interpret subsurface data and laboratory test results (triaxial, consolidation, Atterberg limits, sieve analysis, piezometers) to develop soil and rock models.
Perform foundation design for shallow and deep foundations, including pile design and analysis, and soil-structure interaction assessments.
Design retaining walls, excavation support and shoring systems, and provide construction sequencing and temporary works recommendations.
Conduct slope stability, settlement, liquefaction and seismic assessments, and prepare mitigation and remediation strategies.
Specify and design ground improvement solutions (stone columns, grouting, soil mixing) and oversee implementation and testing.
Carry out groundwater and dewatering design, groundwater modelling and contaminated land/environmental site assessments where required.
Use geotechnical software (PLAXIS, RS2, GEO5, SLOPE/W, LPILE, Settle3D, Rocscience) and CAD/GIS tools (AutoCAD, Civil 3D) to develop and check designs.
QualificationsBachelor's or Master's degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering or related discipline; Chartered status (e.g., CEng, PE) preferred.
Minimum 8+ years of progressive geotechnical engineering experience on infrastructure, commercial or industrial projects.
Strong technical knowledge of soil mechanics, rock mechanics, foundation design (shallow and deep), pile design and analysis, and retaining wall design.
Experienced in slope stability analysis, settlement analysis, liquefaction assessment, seismic design and soil-structure interaction.
Proven experience specifying and overseeing ground improvement methods (stone columns, grouting, soil mixing) and temporary works (shoring, dewatering).Hands-on experience with site investigation methods (CPT, SPT, boreholes), and interpreting laboratory testing (triaxial, consolidation, Atterberg limits, sieve analysis).Proficiency with geotechnical and finite element software (PLAXIS, RS2, GEO5, SLOPE/W, LPILE, Settle3D, Rocscience) and CAD/GIS tools (AutoCAD, Civil 3D).Familiarity with groundwater modelling, contaminated land assessments, and relevant design codes (Eurocode 7, AASHTO, BS EN or local equivalents).BenefitsBOE" Health insurance (High-Deductible Plan with $520 contribution per year to HSA or PPO buyup plan)" Dental insurance" Vision insurance" Paid time off" Six paid holidays"
