Job Description
Job Summary We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Transmission Line Design Engineer to join our dynamic energy sector engineering team. In this role, you will be responsible for designing, analyzing, and optimizing high-voltage electrical transmission lines to ensure reliable power delivery across utility networks. Your expertise will contribute to the development of efficient, safe, and compliant electrical systems that meet industry standards and customer needs. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work on complex system designs, collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, and advance the infrastructure that powers communities. Duties Develop detailed transmission line designs using AutoCAD, MicroStation, and other CAD software, ensuring accuracy and adherence to project specifications. Perform power systems analysis and modeling utilizing MATLAB and other simulation tools to evaluate system performance under various load conditions. Create comprehensive schematics and system diagrams for high-voltage electrical systems, including AC/DC configurations and power electronics circuits. Ensure all designs comply with relevant electrical codes such as NFPA 70 (National Electrical Code), NEC (National Electrical Code), NESC (National Electrical Safety Code), and local building regulations. Coordinate project scheduling, manage timelines, and track progress to meet project milestones efficiently while maintaining quality standards. Collaborate with project managers, construction teams, and stakeholders to facilitate smooth project execution from design through construction phases. Conduct engineering troubleshooting for utility electrical systems, identifying issues related to power system protection, energy distribution, or mechanical components. Skills
- Bachelor's degree (or advanced) in civil engineering. Electrical or mechanical engineering degrees may be considered, if applicant has at least 4+ years of transmission line design experience. AND
- 4+ years of experience in engineering or science-related position within the utility or a related industry required.
- 7+ years of transmission line design engineering experience is strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated experience in designing and building transmission lines operating at 69 kV and 115 kV, including route selection, Public Utilities Commission (PUC) permitting support, land rights coordination, design, vendor approval, issue packages, construction support and as built documents highly preferred.
- Experience designing 200+ kV transmission lines preferred but not required.
- Understanding of NESC (National Electrical Safety Code).
- Extensive knowledge and experience using PLS-CADD and MFAD.
- Fundamentals of Engineering (F.E.)/E.I.T. certification required. Professional Engineer registration is preferred.
- Understanding of transmission line construction.
- Skill in utilizing and assessing technologies related to the utility industry.
- Verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to research, analyze, and make recommendations related to engineering decisions.
- Ability to work within a team environment.
- Project management skills.
- Demonstrated experience in utilizing problem-solving skills to address primarily technical nature issues.
