Job Description

Leidos is seeking a Transmission Line Engineer to join our Engineering & Design team within the Energy & Utilities sector. In this role, you will perform engineering design and analysis for overhead and underground high-voltage transmission lines, including route selection, structure loading, foundation requirements, conductor sizing, and clearance checks. You will prepare drawings, calculations, and technical documents; coordinate with utilities, permitting agencies, and internal disciplines; support cost estimates and proposals; and ensure compliance with NESC, IEEE, and client standards. Responsibilities Perform engineering design and analysis for overhead and underground transmission lines (69k V and above). Develop line routes, structure spotting, and conductor configurations using PLS-CADD and related tools. Perform structural loading checks and foundation sizing using PLS-POLE/PLS-TOWER or equivalent. Prepare design drawings, bill of materials, and construction packages in coordination with drafters/designers. Ensure designs comply with NESC, IEEE, ASCE, and utility/client standards and specifications. Support preparation of estimates, proposals, schedules, and design reports for transmission projects. Coordinate with civil, substation, and protection & controls teams for integrated project delivery. Interface with utility clients, permitting agencies, and stakeholders to resolve technical issues. Support field activities such as site walks, walkdowns, and construction support as needed. Contribute to continuous improvement, standards development, and knowledge sharing within the team.
