Senior Transmission Engineer Omaha Public Power District - 3.8 Omaha, NE Job Details Full-time $109,942 - $137,428 a year 13 hours ago Qualifications Stakeholder relationship building Full Job Description Opportunity Profile Position Overview OPPD's Senior Transmission Engineer serves as a strategic technical leader responsible for shaping long-term transmission system plans, leading high-complexity studies, advancing engineering methodologies, and guiding major transmission infrastructure projects. This role supports OPPD's mission by informing capital project decisions, improving system performance, engaging with public stakeholders, and ensuring the reliable expansion of OPPD¿s transmission network. Responsibilities include overseeing major workstreams, representing OPPD at public outreach meetings, planning transmission line routes, and managing construction activities for transmission line towers. The Impact You'll Have Produce high-volume, high-quality engineering output while solving complex technical challenges and improving departmental workflows. Lead technical strategy and decision-making for major transmission engineering issues and long-term system solutions. Oversee multi-disciplinary engineering workstreams including planning, modeling, routing, construction coordination, and stakeholder engagement. Develop innovative methodologies, tools, or modeling practices that enhance the reliability and performance of the transmission system. Champion risk identification and mitigation by anticipating technical, operational, and project¿related concerns and implementing proactive solutions. Coach and mentor engineering team members, strengthening organizational capability and technical proficiency. Lead advanced, high-complexity transmission studies including powerflow, short-circuit, stability, transfer capability, and reliability analyses with detailed modeling. Shape OPPD's long-term transmission expansion strategy, identifying needs, prioritizing investments, developing technical scopes, and preparing conceptual cost estimates and justifications. Oversee major generator interconnection and system impact evaluations, refining scopes and ensuring required upgrades are appropriately documented and represented in agreements. Ensure alignment with regional planning groups, neighboring utilities, and evolving regulatory requirements at state, regional, and federal levels. Represent OPPD as a lead technical voice at public outreach meetings, explaining routing rationale, construction plans, and project impacts. Direct routing efforts for new transmission lines, integrating technical feasibility, regulatory considerations, stakeholder feedback, and long-term planning needs. Manage construction of transmission line towers, including coordination with construction management, contractors, regulatory bodies, and field engineers. Provide leadership, continuity, and process improvement across departmental initiatives to elevate organizational reliability and performance. What You'll Bring Demonstrated ability to successfully complete essential duties with or without reasonable accommodation. Registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of Nebraska or ability to obtain Nebraska registration within 6 months through reciprocity and relevant experience. Preferred Experiences Bachelor's degree in civil engineering Eight or more years of transmission or power system engineering experience, with demonstrated senior level responsibilities. Expertise in advanced transmission system modeling, analysis, and scenario development.
