Job Description

Join a landmark rail infrastructure program and play a key role in the design of one of the most significant transportation projects in North America. We are seeking an experienced Senior Substation & Power Systems Engineer to lead the design and delivery of electrical power systems for a major high-speed rail initiative. Key Responsibilities Lead detailed design of substation low-voltage systems, including AC/DC auxiliary power, switchgear, protection and control, grounding, cabling, and raceway systems. Perform and review power system studies, including load flow, short circuit, protection coordination, and arc flash analysis using ETAP or SKM. Coordinate interfaces with utility providers, medium-voltage systems, traction power systems, and Power SCADA. Review contractor and vendor submittals and support engineering activities through construction, testing, and commissioning. Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers. Prepare and seal engineering deliverables within your area of expertise as a licensed Professional Engineer (PE). Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline. 8+ years of experience in substation and power systems design. Strong knowledge of NEC, NESC, IEEE, and NFPA standards. Hands-on experience with ETAP and/or SKM power system analysis software. Experience coordinating designs within BIM environments. Active Professional Engineer (PE) license. Preferred Qualifications California PE license. Experience in rail, metro, subway, light rail, commuter rail, or other mass transit systems. Experience supporting large-scale infrastructure or transportation projects. Work Arrangement Hybrid position based in Sacramento, CA. Significant on-site presence is expected (approximately 80% of time). Relocation assistance may be available for qualified candidates. Compensation & Benefits Competitive salary ranging from $150,000 to $250,000 annually, depending on experience and qualifications. Performance-based incentives. Ideal Candidate:
A licensed PE with strong substation and power systems expertise, prior experience in rail or mass transit projects, and the ability to take ownership of engineering design deliverables on a major infrastructure program. Target Candidate Profile We are seeking senior Substations / Power Systems professionals with an active PE license , experience in critical infrastructure or railway transportation projects, a proven track record of signing engineering designs and conducting advanced electrical studies, and a willingness to work primarily on-site in California. The candidate has to have both the PE License and prior experience in Mass Transit Systems.
Pay:
$150,000.00 - $250,000.00 per year
