Summary of Duties:
Responsible for providing hydraulic engineering expertise in the specification, design, development, and product support of hydraulic systems for lift trucks. Propose hydraulic systems to satisfy vehicle performance and reliability goals. Develop specifications to meet goals, design systems, and specify components. Oversee design activities necessary to develop, prototype, and launch an approved system and components in conformance with the Company and industry standards. Design specific testing as required to evaluate system and component performance, monitor testing, review and evaluate results, and compile appropriate documentation. Make recommendations regarding component selection. Interface with internal and external suppliers to ensure performance and reliability goals are achieved. Maintain an awareness of the vendor's current product offerings and their product development activities to support concept development activity. Search the field for particular components when needed to support system design activity. Support the supervisor with the creation of project plans/schedules and provide status reports as required. Provide technical support to other engineers as required and assist with the creation of production test requirements. Stay informed of advances and pertinent changes in hydraulic tools, processes, and technologies. Attend training courses, conferences, and meetings on the application of new technology. Review colleagues' designs. Support other functional groups such as test, service, legal, manufacturing, purchasing, and vendors when warranted.
Education requirements:
Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
Experience requirements:
10 years of experience as a Hydraulics Engineer, Mechanical Design Engineer, Associate Engineer, Lead Engineer, Senior Technical Lead, Assistant Manager, Energy Storage Structural Engineer, Project Manager, Design Engineer, or related role.
Certifications:
Certified Fluid Power Hydraulic Specialist Certification from IFPS.
Special Skills or Other Requirements:
Applicants must have demonstrated experience with:
  • Modeling hydraulic systems in Automation Studio;
  • Root cause analysis tools (Fault Tree Analysis, 5 Whys, and Ishikawa Diagram) to solve complex hydraulic issues;
  • 6 months of experience with Siemens NX;
  • 3 years of experience with Mobile Hydraulic Systems;
  • 3 years of experience with CAD Software (PTC-Creo);
  • 3 years of experience with ANSI, ISO, SAE, and EN standards;
  • 3 years of experience with Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA) principles; and
  • 3 years of experience with new product cost estimation techniques: Standard costing and ABC costing.
Any and all experience may be gained concurrently. Must have reliable transportation.
Travel requirements:
Up to 5% domestic travel to attend conferences, visit customer and supplier sites, and meet with other Crown teams.
