This position is responsible for installing natural gas and propane piping systems to support residential and commercial generator installations. The Gas Technician will run gas lines from existing natural gas meters, gas mains, and propane tanks to generator locations while ensuring all work meets applicable codes, manufacturer requirements, and company quality standards. This position involves hands-on construction work including trenching, excavation, underground gas piping installation, backfilling, pressure testing, and site restoration. The ideal candidate will have experience with natural gas and propane systems, underground utility work, and construction jobsite safety. Responsibilities Install natural gas and propane piping from gas meters, gas mains, and propane tanks to standby generators. Determine appropriate gas-line routing based on project plans, equipment locations, site conditions, and applicable codes. Read and interpret construction plans, gas piping diagrams, equipment specifications, and installation requirements. Perform trenching and excavation required for underground gas-line installations. Safely operate trenching and excavation equipment as authorized and trained, including trenchers and other applicable equipment. Install underground and above-ground gas piping using approved piping materials, fittings, valves, regulators, and connections. Properly bed, protect, backfill, and restore trenches following gas-line installation. Perform site preparation and restoration associated with trenching, including removal and replacement of soil, gravel, landscaping, and other affected areas as required. Perform gas pipe sizing and verify adequate gas supply for generator requirements. Install and/or connect gas regulators, shutoff valves, sediment traps, transition fittings, and other required gas-system components. Perform required pressure and leak testing prior to placing gas piping systems into service. Identify existing underground utilities and follow required utility-location and excavation procedures before trenching. Maintain proper separation and clearance from electrical, plumbing, communications, and other underground utilities. Identify and resolve field installation issues while minimizing project delays. Coordinate gas-line installation with generator installers, electricians, project managers, and other field personnel. Maintain accurate documentation of completed work, testing results, materials used, and jobsite conditions. Maintain a clean and organized work area throughout installation. Adhere to all company safety policies, excavation procedures, PPE requirements, and jobsite safety standards. Ensure installations comply with applicable local, state, and federal codes and regulations. Communicate professionally with homeowners, customers, inspectors, utility representatives, and other project stakeholders. Travel as required to support generator installation projects throughout the United States. Skills High School Diploma or GED required. Previous hands-on experience installing natural gas and/or propane piping systems. Knowledge of gas piping materials, fittings, valves, regulators, and installation methods. Understanding of gas-line sizing, pressure requirements, and BTU demand. Experience performing pressure testing and leak testing of gas piping systems. Experience with trenching, excavation, and underground utility installations. Ability to safely use hand tools, power tools, trenching equipment, and other construction equipment. Ability to read and interpret construction plans, diagrams, equipment specifications, and technical documents. Knowledge of jobsite and excavation safety procedures. Ability to work independently and as part of a field installation team. Strong commitment to safety and quality workmanship. Valid driver's license and ability to travel as required.
