The essential job responsibilities of the Commercial and Residential Engineering Specialist are to reports to Engineering Supervisor. Apply associate-level engineering principles in the design of electric/ gas or water facilities; provide technical assistance to internal/ external entities; conduct/ evaluate/ coordinate and/ or assist in generalized and specified training of new personnel; review and / or approve designs, drafting, calculations, and cost estimates of departmental employees and ensure compliance with federal/ state regulations; and perform other departmental activities as required. Provide technical assistance to design personnel, customers, contractors, and other external entities such as information concerning division construction standards/ practices and electric/ gas, or water facilities; prepare contracts and estimates; compute revenue and quote costs. Review and or approve designs, drafting, calculations, and cost estimates of departmental employees and ensure compliance with federal/ state regulations and division policies/ procedures. Conduct/ evaluate/ coordinate and/ or assist in training of new personnel and refresher training of existing personnel in classroom sessions and on the job. Select/ organize/ prepare and update engineering teaching/ training aids which include development of standards and technical/ procedural/ service policy manuals. Coordinate departmental work with other engineering departments, customers, developers, contractors and other external entities on engineering planning, designs, conversions, etc. Make field trips to gather data, take measurements/ study construction practices and make recommendations/ authorize field changes. Collect data, compile records, prepare various reports and work on special projects as assigned; may direct/ assign work of designated departmental personnel. Stay abreast of various rules, codes and governmental regulations concerning distribution engineering. Perform other duties as directed.
