Join Our Automation Engineering Team Jam Works Automation is hiring an Automation Engineer I to support the design, programming, testing, integration, and commissioning of custom automated manufacturing systems. This is a salaried/exempt, early-career engineering opportunity for someone interested in building hands-on experience across both controls and robotics. You'll work alongside experienced engineers while developing skills in PLC/HMI programming, industrial robotics, electrical controls, system integration, troubleshooting, and commissioning. Candidates may come into the role with stronger experience in either controls or robotics. Build hands-on experience across both controls and robotics Work on custom automated manufacturing systems from programming through commissioning Learn directly from experienced automation engineers through project work, training, and mentoring Gain exposure to technologies including PLCs, HMIs, industrial robotics, drives, servos, vision systems, and safety systems Develop toward a longer-term career path in Controls Engineering or Robotics Engineering as your technical skills and experience grow What You'll Do Support the design, programming, integration, testing, and commissioning of automated manufacturing systems Develop and modify basic PLC/HMI and robot programs with guidance from experienced engineers Work with technologies including Rockwell/Allen-Bradley, AutomationDirect, FANUC robotics, and RoboGuide Assist with electrical drawings, control schematics, panel layouts, I/O documentation, equipment selection, and other engineering documentation Support the assembly, wiring, installation, checkout, and troubleshooting of control panels, field devices, robotic equipment, and automation components Participate in Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), equipment start-up, and commissioning Troubleshoot basic electrical, controls, robotics, and system-integration issues Collaborate with Controls, Robotics, Mechanical Engineering, Project Management, Manufacturing, and other teams throughout project execution Maintain accurate programs, drawings, backups, test records, and project documentation Travel to customer locations as needed for installation, commissioning, start-up, and troubleshooting activities What We're Looking For Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Robotics Engineering, Automation Engineering, or a related engineering discipline; equivalent relevant education and experience may be considered Typically 0-2 years of relevant experience in industrial automation, controls, robotics, manufacturing, or a related environment Internships, co-ops, academic projects, and other relevant hands-on experience are welcome Foundational knowledge of PLC/HMI programming, industrial robotics, electrical controls, and automated equipment Exposure to Rockwell/Allen-Bradley, AutomationDirect, FANUC, or RoboGuide is preferred Ability to read and develop basic electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical drawings Basic understanding of sensors, I/O, motors, drives, servos, safety devices, and industrial communications Basic electrical and mechanical aptitude with the ability to safely use common hand and power tools Strong troubleshooting, communication, teamwork, and organizational skills Ability and willingness to learn new technologies and work in a hands-on, project-driven environment This Could Be a Great Fit If You Enjoy figuring out how machines, controls, and robotic systems work together Want a role that combines engineering work with hands-on equipment experience Are interested in developing skills across both controls and robotics before building deeper specialization Enjoy troubleshooting and solving technical problems Work well with engineers, technicians, manufacturing teams, and customers Are curious, adaptable, and motivated to keep building your technical skills Work Environment and Physical Requirements Work is performed across office/engineering, manufacturing, assembly, and customer-site environments The role may involve working around operating machinery, electrical equipment, robotic systems, and moving mechanical components Hands-on work may include equipment assembly, wiring, installation, testing, and troubleshooting Ability to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds regularly and up to 50 pounds occasionally, with assistance as appropriate Frequent bending, reaching, stooping, kneeling, or crouching may be required when working around equipment and control panels Appropriate personal protective equipment and applicable company and customer safety procedures must be followed Travel to customer locations is required as needed for installation, testing, commissioning, start-up, troubleshooting, and technical support Work schedules may occasionally vary based on project, commissioning, or customer requirements Equal Opportunity Employer Jam Works Automation LLC is an Equal Opportunity Employer (M/F/D/V).
