Job Description
Job Overview We're looking for an experienced Robotic Welding Technician whose real strength is programming robotic welders — building new weld programs, setting up cells, and running them in production.
This is a skills-first role:
we care far more about what you can actually do on a robotic cell than about years on paper. Your mission is to program a steady stream of new parts, increase throughput and weld quality, and cut downtime. About Direct Dimension LLC Direct Dimension LLC is a welding and fabrication shop producing engineered parts for the transportation industry. We are a fast-growing facility and team who takes pride in precision work and parts our customers can count on. This is a high-impact, hands-on role — you'll own our robotic welding cells and be the person who turns them into a faster, more consistent, more productive operation. Responsibilities- Program robotic welding cells for new and existing parts — create, test, and refine weld programs for quality first-pass welds
- Set up and change over cells: fixtures, tooling, weld parameters, torch/TCP alignment, and safe, repeatable setups
- Operate the cells in production and hold weld quality to spec
- Drive efficiency — improve cycle times, first-pass yield, and throughput; standardize proven programs
- Troubleshoot and minimize downtime — diagnose weld, robot, and cell issues and get production back up fast; coordinate repairs and preventive maintenance
- Dial in weld parameters (voltage, wire feed, travel speed, gas) for consistent results across materials and joints
- Help train and coach operators and teammates on the cells (a growing part of this role over time)
- Keep clear program and setup documentation so runs are repeatable shift to shift
- Follow all shop safety practices and wear the required PPE Requirements
- Hands-on experience programming robotic welders — not just running them. You can build a new weld program from scratch, set up the cell, and get it producing good parts.
- Strong robotic cell setup skills: fixturing, tooling, TCP/torch alignment, and weld-parameter development
- Solid grasp of welding fundamentals and weld quality — you know what a good weld looks like and how to get there on the robot
- Able to read parts, prints, and weld symbols well enough to program to them
- A problem-solver who keeps cells running and always looks for ways to speed things up
- Reliable and safety-minded
- Comfortable being placed on first or second shift (see Schedule) Preferred (a Plus, Not Required)
- Experience across a variety of robotic platforms is an advantage — we run Genesis robotic weld cells and cobots (collaborative welding robots), so time on those or comparable systems (e.g., FANUC, Yaskawa/Motoman, Miller/Lincoln) is a plus
- Repair, maintenance, and advanced troubleshooting experience on robotic cells
- CAD programming — a huge bonus, though not a necessity — comfortable reading models/drawings and doing offline / CAD-to-path programming
- Manual / hand welding skill (MIG/TIG/stick) to complement the robotic work
- Experience training or leading other operators on robotic equipment
- Background in a manufacturing, fabrication, or welding shop environment Physical Requirements & Work Environment
- Work is performed in an active welding and fabrication shop on heavy goods Schedule
- Full-time, Monday-Friday, on-site at our Lake in the Hills, IL facility
- First or second shift — we'll place the right person on the shift that fits, and we'd like to know your preference. First shift runs 6:00 AM-2:30 PM; second shift runs afternoon into the evening (roughly 2:30 PM-11:00 PM).
- The window includes a lunch break; 40 hours per week, with occasional overtime as production requires Compensation & Benefits
- $24-$30 per hour, based on skill and experience — we pay for real robotic welding ability

Pay:
