Overview The Solar Design & Service Coordinator is responsible for designing solar energy systems, monitoring system performance, coordinating service and warranty activities, and serving as a primary point of contact for customer support. This role combines technical solar design expertise with service coordination and troubleshooting to ensure a high-quality customer experience from project development through long-term system performance.
Responsibilities System Design and Engineering:
Create accurate solar energy system designs using solar modeling and proposal tools Conduct site assessments to gather data for designing optimal solar systems Prepare system layouts, review electrical schematics and engineering drawings in compliance with local codes and industry standards Collaborate with the sales team to develop proposals and technical documentation
System Monitoring and Service Coordination:
Monitor installed solar systems to ensure peak performance and identify potential issues Analyze system data to troubleshoot performance problems and recommend solutions Receive service inquiries from existing or new customers and begin the service process Perform service visits and maintenance Coordinate maintenance and repairs with field technicians when needed Follow up on manufacturer warranties relevant to the service needed
Collaboration and Communication:
Work closely with customers, project managers, electricians, and contractors to ensure smooth project execution Communicate effectively with customers to address technical questions and provide updates on system performance Qualifications Proficiency with solar design software (e.g., Solargraf, Helioscope, Aurora) Understanding of electrical systems and solar PV technologies Familiarity with solar system monitoring platforms and data analysis Comfortable using basic hand and power tools Strong organizational and problem-solving skills Excellent communication and teamwork abilities Knowledge of local building codes and permitting processes in Virginia Strong understanding of the solar energy industry or a demonstrated passion for renewable energy and sustainability Bachelor's degree in engineering, renewable energy, or a related field preferred but not required; equivalent experience or technical training considered in lieu of a degree 1-3 years of experience in solar energy, electrical systems, construction, engineering support, technical customer service, or a related field required Spanish language proficiency preferred NABCEP certification or willingness to obtain it Valid driver's license and reliable transportation Work Environment Based out of our Harrisonburg, VA office with travel required throughout the local service area as needed. Eligible for occasional remote work once satisfactory performance standards have been demonstrated. Prolonged periods working on a computer are expected. May require lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds, climbing ladders, and safely accessing rooftops. Requires the ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, and to stand, walk, bend, and perform occasional physical inspection activities.
