Job Summary We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Survey Technician specializing in Construction Staking to join our dynamic surveying team. In this role, you will be responsible for translating engineering plans and schematics into precise on-site construction layouts, ensuring that projects are built accurately according to design specifications. Your expertise in land surveying, construction layout surveys, and the operation of advanced surveying equipment will be essential in delivering high-quality results that keep projects on track. Duties Perform construction staking by setting out points, lines, and grades using total stations, GPS systems, and other surveying instruments to guide construction crews. Conduct land surveys including topographic, ALTA (American Land Title Association), and boundary surveys to gather accurate data for project planning and design. Operate and maintain surveying equipment such as total stations, GPS/GNSS systems (including Trimble GNSS), 3D scanners, LiDAR devices, and data collectors to ensure precise data collection. Interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and CAD files created with AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Revit, MicroStation, or Carlson software to facilitate accurate field implementation. Utilize GIS (Geographic Information Systems) tools like ArcGIS for data analysis and mapping purposes related to construction projects. Perform utility locating to identify underground utilities before excavation or construction activities commence, ensuring safety and compliance with regulations. Collect and analyze surveying data with strong math skills involving trigonometry, algebra, geometry, and land descriptions to verify accuracy and support project documentation. systems. Strong knowledge of math fundamentals including trigonometry, algebra, geometry, and their application in surveying tasks. Familiarity with CAD software (AutoCAD, Civil 3D), GIS platforms (ArcGIS), Revit, MicroStation, Carlson software packages, and drafting skills for creating accurate schematics. Ability to perform utility locating using specialized tools to identify underground infrastructure safely. Experience with 3D scanners and LiDAR technology for detailed topographic surveys or site analysis is a plus. Knowledge of legal land descriptions and the ability to interpret engineering drawings for construction staking purposes. Physical ability to perform heavy lifting and work outdoors in varying weather conditions while maintaining safety standards. Excellent data collection skills combined with attention to detail; capable of analyzing survey data accurately for project use.
