Job Description

Overview The Survey Technician I is an entry-level position responsible for assisting survey field crews and office staff with basic surveying and drafting tasks for civil engineering and land development projects. This role supports survey operations through field data collection, equipment setup, drafting assistance, and general project support under direct supervision. The Survey Technician I is expected to learn surveying principles, field procedures, CAD drafting, and survey software while developing technical skills and gaining practical experience in both field and office environments. Duties & Responsibilities 1. Assist survey crews with field operations and data collection, including topographic surveys, construction staking, boundary surveys, and as-built surveys. 2. Operate total station and GPS survey equipment under minimal supervision; record field notes and measurements as directed. 3. Maintain field organization and site safety awareness; follow OSHA and company safety procedures. 4. Assist with organizing and downloading survey data, supporting preparation of survey drawings and exhibits, and performing basic CAD drafting and editing tasks. 5. Assist with file management, project documentation, and survey calculations and data processing procedures. 6. Support office staff with general technical and administrative tasks. 7. Maintain and organize survey equipment and supplies, including cleaning, charging, and inventory tracking. 8. Support project teams with field preparation, coordination tasks, and communicating field observations and issues to senior staff. 9. Learn surveying principles, terminology, procedures, and software; develop proficiency with survey equipment and build understanding of construction plans, maps, and survey records. 10. Participate in on-the-job training and mentoring opportunities; demonstrate willingness to learn and grow within the profession. 11. Perform assigned tasks under direct supervision, applying basic surveying procedures and safety practices with reliability, teamwork, and attention to detail. 12. Develop technical skills in field surveying and drafting; contribute positively to project teams and daily operations. 13. All other duties as assigned. Qualifications
  • Associate's degree in Surveying, Civil Engineering Technology, or related field preferred; recent graduates and career changers welcome.
  • Basic familiarity with survey concepts from coursework or prior experience is a plus.
  • Willingness to work outdoors in varying terrain and weather conditions.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
  • Ability to follow directions, receive feedback constructively, and work safely as part of a team.
  • Good physical stamina for fieldwork including walking, carrying equipment, and working in outdoor environments.
  • Enthusiasm for building a career in land surveying.
