A Surveying or Mapping Technician works with surveyors and cartographers to gather data and create maps. Visits sites and records survey measurements and descriptive data. Selects data needed to create maps, including photos, aerial photos and satellite information, and helps produce and update maps that show boundaries or topographical information.

Principal Marine Surveyor Duties:
Leads and oversees the application of rules, regulations, and industry principles, ensuring the highest standards in maritime safety and compliance. Acts as a professional specialist, applying comprehensive knowledge of rules, regulations, and industry concepts within the organizations framework. Performs routine surveys on classed ships, platforms, or marine structures, ensuring compliance with classification and statutory requirements. Prepares technically accurate and timely reports of inspections and surveys. Maintains survey files in an orderly and up-to-date manner within the assigned area of responsibility. Maintains an active awareness of new working methods and developments, recommending changes to surveying processes and safety programs based on industry advancements. Recommends new approaches to problems encountered and initiates changes in working methods and procedures as necessary. Plans, schedules, and coordinates various phases of surveying work, ensuring the quality of service on work performed. Monitors work and projects performed by subordinate surveyors to ensure consistency, continuity, and high-quality outcomes. Provides leadership, guidance, and training to lower-level and less experienced surveyors. Collaborates with the Marine Classification and Statutory Certification team to ensure cohesive and effective operations. Engages with clients to solve problems within the area of expertise. Maintains strong, client relationships, ensuring client satisfaction through effective communication and resolution of issues. Upholds the highest ethical standards in all professional interactions, ensuring integrity, transparency, and fairness in survey processes. Manages and coordinates operational, technical, and administrative activities. Oversees the achievement of quality, technical, and operative objectives. Conducts local control, verifying the technical consistency of documents and reports. Provides technical assistance to customers and local authorities. Remote work permitted from within Florida. Domestic travel required 60% of time and international travel 15% of the time for client site visits to conduct inspections and surveys.
Requirements:
Bachelors degree (or foreign equivalent) in Marine Engineering, Naval Engineering, Ocean Engineering, or a closely related field; 9 years of experience in marine surveying and classification at an IACS member Classification Society, including 9 years of experience with each of the following: ship engineering systems and machinery; marine management software programs; in-service surveys, including: hull, machinery, and equipment tests and compliance; issuing certificates, reports and status in compliance with applicable rules and regulations; performing Marine Management System audits.
