Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled Layout Tech/Surveyor to join our construction team. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in surveying and layout operations on large-scale commercial projects. This role is responsible for ensuring precise field layout using Hilti Total Stations and associated software, validating all dimensional work prior to execution, and maintaining high quality and accuracy throughout all phases of construction.
Key Responsibilities:
Operate and manage Hilti Total Stations for all layout and surveying tasks. Utilize surveying and data software (e.g., AutoCAD, Trimble, Hilti PROFIS, or similar) to execute accurate layouts. Collaborate closely with project foremen and field crews to ensure alignment and understanding of layout requirements. Validate and verify dimensions, elevations, and alignments on-site prior to and during construction activities. Identify discrepancies or conflicts in construction drawings and proactively resolve issues before execution. Monitor quality levels in field operations and ensure that layouts are completed to project specifications. Maintain meticulous attention to detail and accuracy, ensuring all work aligns with contract documents and design intent. Communicate layout plans clearly and efficiently to teams across disciplines. Document layout information and as-built conditions as needed for progress tracking and project records. Assist in establishing benchmarks, control points, and coordinate systems for job sites. Support preconstruction and planning teams with layout input when required. Qualifications:
5+ years of hands-on experience in field engineering, surveying, and layout on large-scale commercial construction projects. Proficient in the use of Hilti Total Station systems and associated layout tools/software. Strong knowledge of data surveying software and interpretation of digital construction documents. In-depth understanding of construction principles, practices, and sequencing. Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, blueprints, and specifications. Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to accuracy and quality. Excellent communication and collaboration skills - able to convey technical information clearly to team members at all levels. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite; familiarity with BIM coordination tools is a plus. Ability to work independently and manage multiple layout tasks with minimal supervision.
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to work in outdoor construction environments in varying weather conditions. Ability to walk, stand, bend, and lift up to 50 lbs as required on a construction site. Must be comfortable working around heavy equipment and uneven terrain.
