What they do

A Surveyor measures the surface of the Earth and collects data used to make maps, set boundaries, and determine the shape and contour of sections of land. Uses global positioning system (GPS) and global information system (GIS) technology to make measurements. May specialize in measurements to determine airspace boundaries; may conduct marine or hydrographic surveys to measure bodies of water and determine shorelines and water flow and depth.

Internship, co-op, or coursework related to surveying, CAD, engineering, or construction is a plus. Basic knowledge of AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Trimble software, or similar applications preferred. Strong computer skills and willingness to learn industry-specific software and equipment. Ability to read and interpret construction plans, drawings, and specifications is preferred. Strong attention to detail, organization, and problem-solving skills. Support survey crews and office staff with roadway, utility, topographic, boundary, and as-built survey projects. Help review project files for accuracy and completeness prior to field use. Assist with basic survey calculations, data processing, and record management. Support the setup and maintenance of GPS and survey equipment under the guidance of senior team members. Learn and utilize survey software such as Trimble Business Center, AutoCAD, and Civil 3D.

$70,000.00 - $90,000.00 per year
