South Bend, IN Job Details Full-time $24 - $33 an hour 8 hours ago Benefits Health insurance Dental insurance 401(k) Paid time off Vision insurance Qualifications Driver's License Attention to detail Organizational skills Crew management Project leadership Full Job Description Job Overview The Survey Crew Chief is responsible for leading a field survey crew and performing a variety of land surveying activities under the direction of a Project Surveyor or Survey Manager. This position requires strong technical surveying skills, the ability to operate and troubleshoot survey equipment, and the ability to efficiently manage field crews and project assignments. The Crew Chief is responsible for collecting accurate field data, maintaining organized field notes, and ensuring fieldwork is completed safely, accurately, and efficiently.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead and direct field crews performing boundary, topographic, ALTA, construction, and other land surveying projects. Operate total stations, GPS/GNSS equipment, data collectors, levels, and other surveying instruments. Locate, identify, and establish property corners, monuments, control points, and other survey evidence. Perform construction staking and layout for buildings, utilities, site improvements, and other construction projects. Collect accurate measurements and field data and maintain complete and organized field notes. Review survey plans, plats, deeds, and other project information to assist with fieldwork. Communicate field conditions, discrepancies, and project needs to the Project Surveyor or Survey Manager. Train, direct, and monitor the work of Survey Field Technicians and other crew members. Perform routine equipment checks and assist with troubleshooting and maintenance. Ensure fieldwork is performed in accordance with company standards and applicable surveying practices. Maintain a safe and professional work environment and follow all company safety procedures. Coordinate with clients, contractors, property owners, and other project personnel as needed. Travel to various project sites and work outdoors in varying weather and site conditions.
Qualifications:
3+ years of land surveying field experience preferred. Previous experience leading a survey crew required or strongly preferred. Proficiency with total stations, GPS/GNSS equipment, data collectors, and levels. Ability to read and interpret survey plats, deeds, plans, and construction drawings. Strong knowledge of boundary surveying and field procedures. Excellent attention to detail and ability to identify potential field issues. Valid driver's license with a good driving record. Ability to work outdoors, walk uneven terrain, and lift/carry surveying equipment. Strong communication, organization, and leadership skills.
Pay:
$24.00 - $33.00 per hour Expected hours: 40.0 - 45.0 per week
