ACT Engineers is an award-winning civil, environmental, surveying, and landscape architecture firm serving public and private clients across New Jersey and Pennsylvania since 1991. Recent honors include the NJ Alliance for Action Distinguished Engineering Award (2024, 2026) and the ASBPA Project of the Year (2025). With 30 employees, our surveyors own projects end to end, work directly with company leadership, and help shape the growth of our survey practice.
The Opportunity:
We're seeking a New Jersey-licensed Professional Land Surveyor to assist with the growth of our survey department and advance projects; Pennsylvania licensure is a strong plus. Surveyor-in-Training (SIT) candidates with a surveying degree, or working towards a surveying degree, will also be considered for this opportunity. At 30 employees, our surveyors own projects end to end, work directly with company leadership, and help shape the growth of our survey practice. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Supervise and train survey crew personnel, including the performance of fieldwork, as needed Prepare
ALTA/NSPS
Land Title, route, Green Acres, hydrographic, and construction layout surveys Perform deed research and prepare deed plots/mosaics, search corners, and traverse maps for field crews Process field data, including datum and traverse adjustments, confirm GPS data and document survey control files Prepare Parcel Check Reports and metes and bounds descriptions; review title commitments and draft title exceptions Review utility field notes, reduce invert elevations, and verify storm and sanitary sewer flow Prepare CAD stakeout files, cut sheets, and sketches, and support field crews on construction projects Maintain QA/QC procedures, data integrity, and organized project records Sign and seal survey plans (PLS) Write survey proposals, support business development, and mentor survey staff Qualifications (Education and Experience): NJ Professional Land Surveyor license with 5-10 years of experience managing field crews across multiple survey types OR Bachelor's degree in surveying technology or a related field with Surveyor-in-Training (SIT) designation Familiar with deed research, boundary analysis, traverse and datum adjustments, and legal description writing Ability to read title commitments and construction plans Proficiency with Trimble GPS, total stations, robotic total stations, data collectors, and AutoCAD Civil 3D or similar Demonstrated business development and client relationship skills (Preferred) Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain technical details clearly (Preferred) Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Teams (Preferred) Valid driver's license and ability to obtain government security clearance Ability to pass drug and alcohol testing and other pre-hire or project-required screenings
Preferred:
Pennsylvania or additional state PLS licensure Hydrographic survey and boating/marine experience; HyPack FAA Part 107 drone pilot certification MicroStation and Geopak experience
Physical Requirements:
This role combines office-based responsibilities with regular fieldwork. When in the field, the surveyor may perform hands-on survey tasks alongside crews, including working outdoors in varying weather conditions, walking uneven terrain, and lifting and carrying survey equipment at job sites.
Compensation and Benefits:
This is a full-time, salaried position. The salary range dependent on experience.
