Energy Efficiency Internship Location:
Chicago, IL Your Role Digital Realty is a leader in environmental stewardship within the data center industry and is excited to offer a summer internship opportunity on our Energy and Water Management team. This role is designed for a current college student who is interested in sustainability, energy, and data analytics. As an Energy Efficiency Intern, you will support ongoing initiatives to improve energy efficiency, increase renewable energy use, and enhance overall environmental performance across our global data center portfolio. You will work closely with the Operations team and gain exposure to real-world projects, cross-functional collaboration, and the operational side of data centers. This is a hands-on learning opportunity to build practical skills while contributing to meaningful sustainability efforts. What you'll do As an Energy Efficiency Intern, you will support the team on a variety of projects, including: Assist with collecting and organizing data related to energy, water, and sustainability metrics Help track and update key performance indicators (KPIs) for sustainability programs Support data analysis efforts and help identify trends or insights Assist with internal reports and presentations Work with team members across departments to gather information Support renewable energy and sustainability initiatives as needed Help maintain data quality in internal systems and tools Participate in meetings with internal teams and occasionally external partners Contribute ideas for improving processes or data tracking What you'll bring Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in engineering, environmental science, sustainability, data analytics, or a related field Rising junior, or senior status preferred Available for the duration of the summer internship (10 weeks) Curiosity and interest in energy, sustainability, or data centers Basic skills in Microsoft Excel (formulas, organizing data, simple analysis) Detail-oriented and organized Comfortable working with data and numbers (no advanced experience required) Able to communicate clearly in writing and verbally Willing to ask questions and learn in a fast-paced environment Team player with a positive, "can-do" attitude Adaptable and open to taking on different types of tasks Nice to have (but not required): Familiarity with sustainability concepts (energy, water, carbon, ESG) Basic understanding of data analysis or visualization tools (Excel, Power BI, etc.) Interest in real estate, infrastructure, or technology What we can offer you Our rapidly evolving business sector offers the opportunity to be part of a courageous and passionate team who work together to understand and meet the changing needs of our global customers. Compensation range:
