Job Description

Posting Details This posting will be used for ongoing recruitment and may close at any time. Applicant lists may be screened more than once. The State Materials Bureau provides all technical support regarding the design, use, application, evaluation and research associated with all construction materials. The Geotechnical Section provides testing and design of the geologic soils and bedrock formations to ensure stability of the roadway facility. As a valued new employee to NMDOT, you may be eligible to receive three (3) days of administrate leave upon your start date. This is applicable to external hires not within the State of New Mexico Government. Why does the job exist? The position assists the Geotechnical Foundations Engineer in performing statewide geotechnical/ foundation designs and construction support. How does it get done? Generates geotechnical and foundation reports, boring plans, and design recommendations. Reviews construction specifications, design plans, and consultant deliverables. Performs or assist with foundation integrity testing and laboratory testing. Attends meetings statewide and interacts with other technical disciplines. Who are the customers? Internal New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) bureaus and consultants. Ideal Candidate Internal New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) bureaus and consultants. Minimum Qualification Bachelor of Science Degree from an accredited college or university in a relevant engineering discipline and three (3) years of engineering experience. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling seven (7) years may substitute for the required education and experience. Must be licensed by the
NMBLPEPS
as a Licensed Professional Engineer in good standing within six (6) months of hire. Employment Requirements Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive a Defensive Driving Course certificate as a condition of continued employment. Working Conditions Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Field work is also required in varying weather conditions-hot or cold, humidity, wind, rain, and snow; exposure to sunlight, dust, concrete powder, and environmental allergens; exposure to moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places, toxic fumes/chemicals and/or airborne particles; high volume traffic; insects and reptiles, loud noises, confined spaces, and stressful situations; interaction with public, local, county, school, and city officials by phone and in person; work is performed in the field, monthly assignments that require travel and extended overnight stays away from post of duty along with extended hours and occasional travel. Sitting/Standing, bending, squatting, climbing, reaching, kneeling, and crawling for extended periods of time may be required. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
