Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT), Division of Transportation System Development (DTSD) is recruiting to fill a Civil Engineer Transportation Advanced position within the North Central Region. This full-time permanent position will be headquartered in Wisconsin Rapids or Rhinelander. This position offers a hybridized work schedule. The position will be headquartered at and required to work from one of the DTSD North Central office buildings at least 2 days per week. This schedule may change based on operational needs and organizational requirements. All employees working a hybrid work schedule are generally expected to telework from within the State of Wisconsin. This topic will be discussed more at the time of the interview. Position Summary The Regional Traffic Engineer (Civil Engineer Transportation Advanced) will perform the most complex traffic engineering functions for the entire North Central Region. This position will provide engineering direction and guidance to engineering technicians, engineering specialists and other civil engineers. The position will perform engineering analysis for "high profile" projects and will require frequent high-level contacts with project personnel, contractors, local officials and the public. The position is responsible for communicating complex traffic principles/decisions and will perform highly complex engineering reviews. This position requires expert traffic engineering knowledge, including traffic management and safety strategies. This position functions as a work zone traffic control expert for the North Central Region. Primary and critical duties focus on providing highly technical guidance and acceptance in all stages of development of the Transportation Management Plan (TMP) for all projects and associated work zone traffic control management. This position coordinates and approves the Lane Closure System (LCS) entries for the North Central Region. Primary and critical duties focus on providing leadership, guidance and direction in all stages of development and approval of lane closures for all projects and work activities within the region. Plus, an additional $2,080 per year for a Professional Engineer License. A twelve month probationary period is required. Pay for current state employees will be set in accordance with the Wisconsin State Compensation Plan. A $3,000 sign-on bonus applies to those who do not have any prior permanent full-time state service in the last five years and agree to remain in the position for one year. This position requires the ability to independently travel throughout the North Central Region as well as occasional statewide travel. Fieldwork Requirement This position requires fieldwork. This fieldwork can include working in all seasons, including adverse weather conditions and working in high volume traffic conditions, bending on a limited basis, and lifting approximately 20 lbs. and carrying this load approximately 50 feet over varying terrain. This position is required to serve in standby status as a member of the Region's Statewide Incident Notification Team on an as needed basis. This state agency does not sponsor work visas.
