Job Description
Description Hensel Phelps is seeking an experienced Commissioning Engineer to support ongoing mission-critical semiconductor construction projects at Intel's Chandler campus. This role will be responsible for coordinating, planning, testing, startup, commissioning, and turnover activities for complex mechanical and process systems within a fast-paced manufacturing environment. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in process engineering, mechanical engineering, facility systems, commissioning, or startup operations and experience supporting semiconductor fabrication facilities, advanced manufacturing plants, oil & gas facilities, or other highly regulated industrial environments. This position will work closely with construction teams, subcontractors, equipment vendors, facility owners, and operations personnel to ensure systems are commissioned safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead commissioning, startup, testing, and turnover activities for mechanical and process systems. Develop and execute commissioning plans, procedures, and test scripts. Coordinate with design, construction, and operations teams to ensure systems are ready for startup and operational use. Verify installation and functionality of mechanical, process piping, HVAC, utility, and facility support systems. Support Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), Integrated Systems Testing (IST), and turnover activities. Identify, document, and resolve commissioning deficiencies while tracking completion of corrective actions. Review engineering drawings, specifications, P&IDs, equipment submittals, and startup documentation. Ensure compliance with project quality, safety, and regulatory requirements. Participate in system walkdowns, punch list development, turnover packages, and owner training activities. Maintain commissioning schedules and coordinate activities with contractors, vendors, and client stakeholders. Support startup and operational readiness efforts for critical facility systems. Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering, or related technical discipline. 5+ years of commissioning, startup, testing, operations, process engineering, or facility engineering experience. Experience working on semiconductor, advanced manufacturing, industrial, petrochemical, oil & gas, or energy projects. Knowledge of mechanical systems, process systems, utilities, and facility infrastructure. Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, P&IDs, and commissioning documentation. Familiarity with troubleshooting operational and process-related issues during commissioning and startup. Strong communication and coordination skills with contractors, engineers, and project stakeholders. Ability to work full-time onsite at Intel's Chandler campus.Preferred:
Semiconductor fab or advanced manufacturing facility experience. Experience commissioning process piping, specialty gas, chemical delivery, UPW, HVAC, exhaust, vacuum, or utility systems. Previous experience supporting Intel, TSMC, Samsung, Micron, or other semiconductor environments. Working knowledge of commissioning software, quality documentation, and turnover management systems. OSHA 30 certification. Professional Engineer (PE) license or Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification. Experience in mission-critical, data center, or cleanroom environments. Experience Level Intermediate Level Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Chandler, AZ. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $120000.00 - $150000.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
