We are seeking an experienced Data Validation Test Engineer to verify the accuracy, completeness, lineage, reconciliation, and auditability of data exchanged or migrated into an enterprise Department of Veterans Affairs Pega solution. The role focuses on source-to-target validation, interface payloads, transformations, financial and acquisition data quality, migration results, and cross-system consistency rather than general application testing alone.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop data-validation strategies, test plans, cases, queries, reconciliation rules, expected results, and traceability to source-to-target mappings and requirements.
- Validate data extraction, transformation, cleansing, normalization, migration, synchronization, and loading across source systems, integration services, staging, and Pega.
- Verify completeness, accuracy, uniqueness, consistency, timeliness, format, referential integrity, metadata, lineage, and authoritative-source alignment.
- Test interface requests and responses, API payloads, mappings, translations, business rules, error handling, retries, replay, and exception reporting.
- Reconcile legacy and current data across fiscal years, programs, appropriations, cost centers, spending items, approvals, acquisition records, and reporting outputs.
- Develop and execute SQL queries, data profiles, comparison routines, sampling methods, and automated validation checks where practical.
- Document discrepancies with clear evidence, severity, affected records, likely source, business impact, and retest results.
- Collaborate with data/integration engineers, business analysts, developers, SMEs, and functional testers to resolve data defects and clarify rules.
- Support test-data preparation, masking, generation, migration rehearsals, cutover validation, rollback checks, and post-deployment reconciliation.
- Maintain reusable validation assets, data-quality metrics, migration results, exception logs, and audit-ready evidence.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED
- 4+ years of experience in data testing, ETL testing, migration validation, integration testing, data quality, or comparable QA roles.
- Strong SQL skills and experience comparing, profiling, reconciling, and validating data across multiple sources or environments.
- Experience with source-to-target mappings, transformations, data-quality rules, metadata, lineage, and exception handling.
- Experience validating
REST/API
payloads, batch interfaces, ETL/ELT processes, or event-driven data exchanges.- Ability to understand complex financial or transactional data relationships and identify material discrepancies.
- Experience documenting defects, evidence, impact, root-cause hypotheses, and retest results in a traceable manner.
- Strong analytical, detail-oriented, problem-solving, documentation, and communication skills.
- Ability to collaborate with data engineers, developers, analysts, SMEs, and client stakeholders in an Agile environment.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS DESIRED
- Experience validating Pega data structures, data pages, integrations, migration utilities, or reporting outputs.
- Experience in Federal, financial, budget, acquisition, health, or another regulated data environment; VA experience is optional.
- Familiarity with Java or Python validation scripts, ETL tools, API test tools, data-profiling tools, or automated comparison frameworks.
- Working knowledge of data privacy, masking, auditability, authoritative data sources, or Section 508 report validation.
- ISTQB, data-quality, SQL, ETL, cloud, or testing certification is preferred, but not required.
EDUCATION
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Systems, Mathematics, Engineering, Finance, or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
CLEARANCE
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance.
WORK LOCATION
