Position Summary:
The English Learner (EL) Coordinator is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the school's English Learner program for students in grades K-8. This role ensures compliance with state and federal regulations, supports teachers in delivering effective instruction for multilingual learners, and collaborates with families to promote student success. The EL Coordinator provides leadership in curriculum, assessment, intervention planning, and professional development related to English language acquisition.
Key Responsibilities:
Oversee identification, placement, and annual assessment of English Learners in accordance with state and federal guidelines. Maintain accurate documentation, including language proficiency scores, parent notifications, and program placement records. Ensure compliance with Title III, ESSA, and district EL program requirements. Prepare reports for school and district leadership as needed. Support teachers in implementing effective instructional strategies for multilingual learners across content areas. Provide coaching on sheltered instruction, language development, and differentiation. Collaborate with classroom teachers to develop and monitor individualized EL plans and accommodations. Coordinate administration of language proficiency assessments (e.g., WIDA
ACCESS, WIDA
Screener). Analyze assessment data to monitor student progress and guide instructional decisions. Assist teachers in using formative and summative data to support EL students' academic growth. Serve as a primary point of contact for families of English Learners. Provide clear communication regarding student progress, program placement, and available supports. Facilitate translation and interpretation services as needed. Support family engagement events that promote language development and cultural inclusion. Work closely with administrators, interventionists, and support staff to ensure EL students receive appropriate services. Participate in MTSS meetings to provide insight on language acquisition needs and supports. Advocate for equitable access to academic programs, enrichment opportunities, and schoolwide initiatives. Plan and deliver training for staff on EL instructional strategies, cultural responsiveness, and compliance requirements. Provide ongoing support to teachers implementing language-rich instructional practices. Stay current on research and best practices in multilingual education. Create campus LIEP-update, make changes and meet deadlines of submitting to the state Provide flexibility while ensuring accountability and compliance with standardized statewide process to determine if a student can meaningfully access classroom content using the MMT (Multiple Measure Tool) pathway Participate in PLTs Meet with Student support coordinator on a biweekly basis to monitor compliance and receive additional support
Qualifications:
NC Professional Educator license with English as a Second Language K-12 (Required) Experience administering
WIDA/ACCESS
assessments. (Preferred) Experience in working with a diverse student population, experience developing LIEP plans, and a deep knowledge of best EL instructional practices. (Preferred) Experience working with students in a K-8 charter school (Preferred) Able to facilitate translation and interpretation services as needed. (Preferred)
