Job Description

Job Summary:
The Pipe Welding Foreman is responsible for overseeing daily operations within the fabrication shop, ensuring high-quality pipe welding, efficient workflow, and adherence to safety and industry standards. This role combines hands-on welding expertise with leadership responsibilities, including training and mentoring junior welders in proper techniques, equipment operation, and specification compliance.
Key Responsibilities:
Supervise and coordinate all pipe fabrication and welding activities within the shop Interpret blueprints, isometric drawings, and welding procedure specifications (WPS) Ensure all welds meet required codes, standards, and client specifications Monitor productivity, workflow, and job progress to meet deadlines Train and mentor entry-level and junior welders on: Pipe welding techniques (MIG) Proper use of fabrication and welding equipment Safety procedures and best practices Reading and understanding drawings and weld symbols Inspect completed welds and oversee quality control processes Maintain shop equipment and coordinate repairs or maintenance as needed Enforce safety regulations and promote a safe working environment Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and other departments Assist with hands-on welding and fabrication when required
Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED required; technical training or certifications preferred 5+ years of pipe welding experience, with leadership or supervisory experience strongly preferred Proficiency in multiple welding processes (MIG) Strong knowledge of pipe welding codes and standards (e.g., ASME, AWS) Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings Experience operating fabrication shop machinery (pipe rollers, positioners, beveling machines, etc.) Strong leadership, communication, and training skills Detail-oriented with a strong commitment to quality and safety
Physical Requirements:
Ability to stand, bend, and lift up to 50 lbs regularly Comfortable working in a fabrication shop environment (heat, noise, fumes) Capable of performing manual welding tasks as needed
Work Environment:
Fabrication shop setting with exposure to heavy machinery and welding equipment May require extended hours or weekend work depending on project deadlines Preferred Skills (Optional Section): Prior experience training apprentices or leading a team Welding certifications (e.g., 1G-6G pipe certification) Familiarity with shop management or scheduling software If you want, I can tailor this for a specific industry (oil & gas, food-grade piping, structural, etc.) or make it shorter for a job posting site like Indeed.
