Non Exempt To learn more about Harwood Unified Union School District and our schools, visit https://huusd.org/our-schools Position Objective Plan, organize, manage, supervise, and implement safe, functional, and aesthetically pleasing grounds and facilities. Accountable for the maintenance and operations of grounds and facilities at your assigned school. Key Responsibilities Grounds & Facilities Management Oversee daily operations of grounds and facilities including cleaning, maintenance, projects, seasonal staff, and volunteers. Coordinate all electrical, plumbing, and heating system work; troubleshoot, repair, and install equipment and fixtures. Inspect, repair, and maintain life safety equipment (fire extinguishers, smoke detectors, fire alarms). Ensure compliance with electrical and plumbing codes and standards. Maintain tools, equipment, and inventory of materials. Plan, schedule, and supervise year-round and seasonal grounds functions: Lawn care, fertilizing, tree/shrub pruning, planting flowers, trees, and shrubs. Snow and ice removal; roof snow monitoring. Athletic field preparation and maintenance. Playground and courts maintenance. Trash pickup, furniture moving, and erosion control. Supervise minor construction and maintenance tasks: Carpentry, concrete/masonry, roof work, drywall, painting, plumbing, and electrical repairs. Support skilled trades personnel on complex projects. Prepare grounds and facilities for scheduled events; coordinate clean-up, set-up, and special requirements. Recommend facility enhancements, renovations, and capital improvements. Finance & Administration Monitor budgets, purchase requisitions, and expenses related to grounds and facilities. Prepare departmental budgets and oversee purchases, bids, and contracts in alignment with the Capital Plan. Personnel Management Hire, train, evaluate, develop, and schedule all grounds and facilities staff. Provide supervision in accordance with policies and applicable laws. Address employee performance, conduct, and development. Professional Duties Communicate with internal and external stakeholders regarding grounds and facilities needs. Participate in professional development opportunities (seminars, workshops, conferences). Design procedures and recommend improvements to enhance department efficiency and effectiveness. Supervision Reports to, is supervised, and evaluated by the building principal and the Director of Operations and Maintenance. Receives general administrative direction. Supervisory Responsibilities Oversees and directs the custodial and maintenance staff for your school Qualifications Education & Experience High school diploma plus 8-10 years of relevant technical training/experience, or equivalent combination. Experience in building, grounds, and facility maintenance and management. Certifications & Licenses Valid Vermont driver's license. Willingness to attend professional development to enhance maintenance knowledge and skills. Skills & Abilities Technical skills: electrical, plumbing, heating, carpentry, masonry, roofing, painting, mechanical repairs. Budgeting, planning, and project management skills. Computer skills: Microsoft Word, Excel, email, and internet navigation. Ability to read, interpret, and write technical reports, procedures, and regulations. Communication skills to work effectively with staff, students, parents, coaches, and external organizations. Reasoning and problem-solving skills for complex and non-standardized situations. Work Schedule Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays. Physical Effort & Stress Frequent standing, walking, climbing, balancing, sitting, using hands, and talking/hearing. Occasional stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and reaching. Ability to lift/move up to 50 pounds. Visual acuity including close and distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment. Ability to handle stressful situations and resolve conflicts. Working Conditions Occasional exposure to wet/humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, elevated or precarious places, fumes, chemicals, extreme temperatures, electrical hazards, vibration, and noise. The Director of Maintenance ensures the District's grounds and facilities are safe, functional, and well-maintained, while managing staff, budgets, projects, and compliance with applicable standards and regulations.Position Type:
