The Senior Accountant will interact effectively with other parts of the company, be viewed as a trusted business adviser to the President/Owners and management team to help make better decisions about formulating and executing strategy. Critical outcomes include supporting the management team with key financial information and operating analytics.
Basic Function:
The Senior Accountant position is accountable for the financial and risk management operations of the company and the ongoing development and monitoring of control systems designed to preserve company assets and report accurate financial results.
Principal accountabilities are:
Operations Maintain relations with all members of the management team Manage and report to Owners the accounting, payroll, legal, tax, and treasury functions Maintain the financial operations of multi-state subsidiary companies Maintain the company's transaction processing and financial systems Financial Information Manage and summarize current financial status; preparing balance sheet, profit and loss statement, and other reports on weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual basis. Prepare reconciliations of specialized balance sheet accounts that are more complex in nature. Perform monthly closing procedures for accounts and inventory and reconcile sub-systems to general ledger. Substantiates financial transactions by auditing documents. Develop financial strategies by forecasting capital and developing actions plans. Monitors financial performance by measuring and analyzing results; initiating corrective actions; minimizing the impact of variances. Conduct financial analysis for commercial equipment loans. Risk Management Understand and mitigate key elements of the company's risk profile Review and monitor reliable control systems Ensure that the company complies with all legal and regulatory requirements Ensure that record keeping meets the requirements of auditors and government agencies Report risk issues to the
CEO Desired Qualifications:
The candidate for Senior Accountant must have a degree in accounting or finance and 5+ years of progressively responsible experience for a major company or division of a mid-size corporation. Bachelor's degree (or higher) in Accounting required. Minimum five years Accounting experience, equivalent Public Accounting, and /or Auditing experience required. Have experience working with companies in the metal recycling industry. Experience building reports and performing research using accounting systems, databases, and other sources required. Understanding of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), theories, and the ability to apply them to the Corporation's accounting needs

Experience conducting basic research using accounting applications and other sources to perform accounting functions required.
