ROLE OVERVIEW
The Cost Accountant is an individual contributor role supporting our clients Finance team, with a focus on hands-on cost accounting in a manufacturing, production, and inventory-based operating environment. The role owns standard costing, inventory valuation, COGS analysis, and margin/variance analysis to ensure accurate, timely financial reporting in a regulated cannabis manufacturing environment.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
Cost Accounting & Inventory Valuation Maintain standard costing methodology across manufactured and purchased inventory items Perform inventory valuation across raw materials, work-in-process (WIP), and finished goods Conduct monthly cost rolls and reconcile standard-to-actual cost variances Monitor and report on COGS accuracy across product lines Margin & Variance Analysis Analyze margin and variance data to identify cost drivers and profitability trends Investigate and explain material, labor, and overhead variances Partner with Operations and Supply Chain to identify cost-saving and efficiency opportunities Month-End Close & Reporting Prepare month-end journal entries related to COGS, inventory reclassification, and cost adjustments Support month-end and year-end close processes with accurate, timely cost data Reconcile inventory accounts and resolve discrepancies Cross-Functional Collaboration Partner with Operations, Production, and Supply Chain to ensure accurate cost data flows into financial systems Support physical inventory counts and cycle counts Assist with ad hoc cost analysis and reporting requests from Finance leadership
WHAT THEY'RE LOOKING FOR
Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance preferred Hands-on cost accounting experience in a manufacturing, production, or inventory-based operating environment
- standard costing, inventory valuation, COGS analysis, and margin/variance analysis Proficiency in QuickBooks Online and/or NetSuite strongly preferred
- Cannabis industry experience is a significant differentiator, though not required Strong Excel skills and exceptional attention to detail Ability to work independently and manage priorities in a fast-paced, regulated environment
