Job Description

Project AccountantPosition SummaryThe Project Accountant is responsible for managing the financial aspects of construction and development projects. This role works closely with Project Managers, Operations, and Accounting to ensure accurate job costing, budgeting, invoicing, and forecasting. The Project Accountant plays a critical role in maintaining the financial integrity and profitability of each project.

Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesProject Financial Management (Procore)Monitor project budgets and track actual costs against approved budgets.

Analyze budget variances and communicate findings to management.

Assist with project forecasting and cost-to-complete analyses.

Maintain proficiency within Procore, including:

Prime ContractsPCSAHCCBudget MaintenanceDirect CostsAP InvoicingWaiversInsurance TrackingJob Cost AccountingReview and verify project-related invoices and expenses.

Ensure costs are accurately coded to the appropriate project, phase, and cost code.

Maintain accurate job cost records and track commitments.

Subcontractor and Vendor ManagementReview subcontractor payment applications and supporting documentation.

Track retainage balances and release schedules.

Assist subcontractors with training and troubleshooting, as needed.

Collect and maintain required compliance documentation, including:

Conditional and Unconditional Waiver Releases (automated through Procore Pay)Certificates of Insurance (automated through Procore Pay)W-9 FormsExecuted SubcontractsEnsure all compliance requirements are met prior to payment processing, automated through Procore Pay where applicable.

QualificationsEducationBachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field preferred.

An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Experience3+ years of project accounting experience, preferably in construction, real estate development, engineering, or a related industry.

Experience with job cost accounting and project financial management.

Familiarity with construction contracts, change orders, and retainage.

Technical SkillsStrong knowledge of accounting principles and job costing.

Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.

Experience with ERP and project management systems, including:

Sage IntacctProcoreQuickBooks EnterpriseBluebeamRequired CompetenciesExcellent attention to detail and accuracy.

Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.

Strong communication and collaboration skills.

Ability to work independently while supporting cross-functional teams.

High level of integrity and professionalism.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)Accuracy of project budgets and job cost reporting.

Reduction of project cost variances.

Compliance documentation completion rate.

Support of timely project closeouts.

Reports ToControllerWork EnvironmentThis position operates in a professional office environment and collaborates regularly with Accounting, Project Management, Purchasing, and Construction Operations to support the successful financial execution of projects.

This is a full-time, in-office position.
