Overview Join our dynamic finance team as an Credit Union Accountant and become a vital contributor to our organization's financial health and integrity. In this role, you will be responsible for managing a wide range of accounting functions, ensuring compliance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles), and maintaining accurate financial records. This is a unionized position with a guarantee of 40 hours per week. This unionized position includes union benefits, with weekly union dues and a union initiation fee. Accountant Job Description Under the direction of the Accounting Manager, the Accountant is responsible for the daily maintenance of accounting records and assists other departments in the interpretation of accounting entries and reports. Performs detailed accounting assignments which include but are not limited to reviewing and analyzing journal vouchers, bank statement reconciliations, posts adjustments, vendor management, accounts payable, accounts receivable, sub general ledger fixed assets, depreciation, and accrual schedules and general accounting functions, etc. which includes using a variety of computer programs. Other duties include but are not limited to assisting in determining the credit union's liquidity position, accruing, and posting investment dividend checks and investment interest, and assisting in compiling and input/download data for budgets, and monthly Board Reports as assigned. Will be responsible for back up duties in the Payment Service or Operations Department and Mastercard as needed. Complete other miscellaneous duties as assigned within the department.
Key Responsibilities General Ledger:
Reconcile accounts, post journal entries, and investigate variances.
Daily Operations:
Handle bank settlements, wire transfers, accounts payable, and cash flow and month-end closing activities.
Weekly Processes:
Accounts Payable Reconciliation:
Balance ATM networks, and corporate bank accounts.
Reporting & Audits:
Prepare financial reports, assist with NCUA call reports, and supply data for CPA audits.
Qualifications & Requirements Education:
Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field preferred.
Experience:
2+ years of financial industry accounting experience (bank or credit union)
Skills:
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, strong attention to detail, and knowledge of GAAP.
Specialized Episys Accounting Functions Core Software:
Hands-on experience with Jack Henry Symitar Episys core platform preferred.
GL Integration:
Monitor and audit the daily interface batch postings from the Episys core into the central General Ledger.
Sub-Ledger Balancing:
Reconcile Episys member share and loan sub-ledgers against the main GL balance sheet accounts daily.
Transaction Research:
Utilize Episys Account Inquiry tools to audit transaction histories and resolve branch teller posting errors.
Deposit Verification:
Match Episys batch teller totals against remote check capture and image platform reports.
Report Extraction:
Run standard Power On scripts or built-in queries to pull daily financial, loan, and deposit data.
Month-End Close:
Execute month-end roll-forward processes within the core system to lock periods and extract reporting data. $23.71 - $29.63 per hour
