Job Description
- Assist with the year-end close process, including reconciliations, journal entries, adjusting entries, and supporting schedules.
- Maintain and analyze accounting records related to long-term debt, capital assets, additions, disposals, depreciation, and related schedules.
- Review financial statements, account reconciliations, and supporting documentation for accuracy, completeness, and compliance.
- Support preparation and review activities related to the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report, including governmental accounting schedules.
- Research and apply applicable GASB standards and governmental accounting principles.
- Assist with audit requests, respond to auditor inquiries, resolve discrepancies, and support special accounting projects as needed. Compensation and Benefits

Downey, CA. Required Qualifications and Skills- Support year-end close for a municipal or government accounting environment.
- Prepare, review, and analyze general ledger reconciliations, journal entries, and financial schedules.
- Maintain and reconcile long-term debt and capital asset accounting records.
- Assist with ACFR support, financial statement review, and external audit documentation.
- Prior City or municipal government accounting experience is required.
- Senior-level accounting experience with a strong understanding of governmental accounting principles.
- Hands-on experience with long-term debt and capital assets.
- Experience reviewing financial statements and supporting schedules.
- Knowledge of GASB standards and governmental accounting requirements.
- Strong general ledger, reconciliation, journal entry, and year-end close experience.
- Proficiency with accounting and financial systems, along with strong Microsoft Excel skills.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently in a deadline-driven environment.
- 6 to 10 years of relevant accounting experience preferred based on the seniority of the role. Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting or reviewing an Annual Comprehensive Financial Report.
- Experience working directly with external auditors.
- Experience with a California city or municipality.
