Senior Accountant
Job Description
Description A growing construction company is seeking a Senior Accountant to support its expanding accounting operation. This is a hands-on role for an experienced accounting professional who understands that construction accounting requires more than simply balancing the books — you need to understand project costs, contracts, billing, cash flow, and how financial performance connects to individual jobs. The Senior Accountant will partner with project managers, leadership, and the accounting team to keep financial reporting accurate and provide visibility into project performance.
What You'll Own:
+ Manage key components of the monthly and year-end close
+ Prepare journal entries and account reconciliations
+ Maintain and analyze general ledger accounts
+ Review project-related revenue and expenses
+ Monitor job costs and project profitability
+ Reconcile construction-related accounts
+ Assist with progress billing and contract accounting
+ Review subcontractor and vendor activity
+ Analyze budget-to-actual project performance
+ Prepare monthly financial statements and management reports
+ Track accruals, retainage, prepaids, and other balance sheet activity
+ Assist with cash flow reporting and forecasting
+ Research project accounting discrepancies
+ Support annual audits, tax filings, and external accounting requests
+ Maintain documentation and accounting schedules
+ Help strengthen accounting procedures and internal controls
+ Partner with project management and operations teams
+ Support special financial and accounting projects Requirements + 5+ years of progressive accounting experience
+ Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
+ Strong month-end close experience
+ Construction accounting experience strongly preferred
+ Experience with job costing and project accounting
+ Strong understanding of GAAP
+ Advanced Excel skills
+ ERP/accounting software experience
+ Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
+ Strong communication and organization
