Accountant – Mission-Driven Nonprofit Greater New Haven, CT | Hybrid Flexibility $75,000–$85,000 DOE Are you looking to use your accounting expertise to make a real impact? We are partnering with a highly respected, community-focused nonprofit organization in the Greater New Haven area that is adding an Accountant to their team due to continued growth and organizational expansion. This is far more than a traditional accounting role — this person will play a key role in helping drive the financial health and operational success of an organization making a meaningful difference every day. The team is seeking someone who understands nonprofit accounting, enjoys working in a collaborative environment, and wants visibility, ownership, and purpose in their work. What You'll Be Doing:
Own and support critical pieces of the month-end and year-end close process Prepare financial statements, reconciliations, and reporting packages for leadership Manage fund and grant tracking, compliance reporting, and restricted funding activity Partner with program and operational leaders to support budgeting and financial decision-making Assist with audits and help strengthen accounting processes and internal controls Contribute to a finance team that is highly visible and deeply involved in organizational strategy
What They're Looking For:
5+ years of progressive accounting experience Nonprofit accounting experience is highly preferred Strong understanding of grants, fund accounting, and financial reporting Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field Advanced Excel skills and comfort learning/managing accounting systems Someone proactive, organized, and eager to contribute beyond the debits and credits
